Will the Alta recognise an Elliptical workout? My Flex doesn't.

I KNEW I had read that somewhere! Not losing my mind!

I tried the suggestion from tech support and wore my Alta on my body instead of my wrist. I wore it through my bra strap and for some reason it picked up my movement. When I wore it on my wrist, even though I have moving arm rests (push pulls) on my elliptical, it did not register my movement. I can live with this fix.

Yes!! Finally, a solution! I tried hanging the Fitbit on my belt loop/ tie and it worked!! It's still ridiculous that an activity tracker doesn't track such a common activity such as the elliptical without needing tweeking but atleast we have a solution for the interim.

I put my Fitbit Alta in my bra as someone suggested,  and it recognized my 30 minute elliptical workout. It didn't when I had it on my wrist.

My problem, then, is that I can't go that fast.

Thank you! I'll try that next time.

I have the same problem -- it's never once recognized an elliptical workout for me. I don't wear a bra 🙂 but I'll try putting it in my pocket, I guess?

When I first posted, my Alta was recognizing my elliptical workout, but now
it doesn't recognize anything. I have to physically input all my workouts.
I haven't had the time to figure it out, but it is pretty frustrating. I
would think putting it in your pocket would work fine.

i usually do the treadmill and the elliptical, at the beginning it logged the elliptical fine, was usually off by one or two minutes, the treadmill i had to log separately, then it started to track the treadmill as walking which was ok, but the last few days its recording the treadmill as an elliptical.

I just got my Alta, but I've been using the Charge since January. Whenever I would go to a spin class, I would wrap my charge around my ankle (without connecting it) and just pull my sock over it. It recorded all my steps. I knew if I kept it on my wrist, it wouldn't register since I'm holding the handle bars the whole time. Trust me, you will love seeing all your steps if you do this. It worked this way for ellipticals too!! Happy stepping! 👍

Oh my goodness - I just bought a fitbit Charge 2 because I am participating in a step challenge here at work.  I stepped 11949 steps on my elliptical and it only logged 2587 on my fitbit.  I thought I was going crazy and spoke with Fitbit and they told me that it does not detect the motion of the arms which is ridiculous.  I am going to try it on my ankle and/or in my bra based on the results on this page.  Thank you all.  They owe me 25847+ steps for this challenge.

Totally ridiculous! Until they fix this madness, I found my own solution. I hook mine to my belt loop. I'm sure bra would work too. The ankle didn't work out for me though. Good luck!

Yes, it will. I finally figured this out because my Blaze wouldn't work on the elliptical, either. I take my Blaze (sent back my Alta before I figured this out and I think it should work this way, too) and put it on my shoulder, right on the top. I am able to put the band through my bra strap and just let it sit up there. I can watch, with my phone mounted on the dash, each "step" add on to my total. Since the electronics on my elliptical seem to overstate my efforts, I'm happy to have found this solution. Hope this helps someone else.

I have a Charge 2 and it doesn't recognize elliptical either. I have FB'd, chatted and called Fitbit. I have reset my Fitbit and done everything I was told.

I tried everything to get my Alta and then my Blaze to track elliptical steps. What finally worked was to wear it, by then the Blaze, on my shoulder. I put it on top of my shoulder and kept it there by attaching it to my bra strap. Don't know why but it counted steps that way but with my phone app open on the machine I could watch the steps count up.

How do u manually enter data on the Alta?

No, I always forget to manually enter it so I just wear my Fitbit on my belt loop, pocket, or in my bra during exercise. That's the only way it seems to track correctly.

Will give it a try. Thanks for responding.

I have an alta and it tracks movement well.  On the elliptical it misses steps and miles.  The machine always shows 3 times as many miles covered.  After reading the other posts I will try putting it in my sock
