6 Years and Sense setup still isn't fixed

G'Day,

To input my (correct) birthdate, I would have to tap the screen 864 times so I cheated and made myself 18 years old so I only had to tap the screen 216 times.

Unfortunately, it took 3 attempts to get setup to even accept that date, so I still had to tap the screen 648 times.

I read a post from 2017 that seemed to indicate that tapping the Month / Year text would allow access to a drop down menu for the year but, even using a stylus, that didn't work.

By that stage, I was ready to do more than just tap the screen.

Once I had created an account by lying about my age, I was able to alter it to the correct date in Profile, but what a cack-handed way of going about it.

For those who did the maths, I am not senile and I used to build / repair PCs back in the 80s and was State Support for two of the Systems used by Telstra (Australia's original Telecommunications Company).

Surely such a ridiculous situation should have been fixed by now.

Once I get the device working, I'll be interested to see what my stress levels are.

Garry

PS My setup via Bluetooth (because the app won't recognise my 5G Wi-Fi and yes, I only found out I can only use 2.4G Wi-Fi by looking at another post from 2020) just dropped out because (according to the app) my Sense has too low a charge, even though the Sense itself shows a 93% charge.

I am so glad this crock of proverbial was a gift and that I didn't waste money on it.

Hi @OzGazza - the birthdate for setting up the profile should be scrollable or even enterable, but can depend on where you enter it.

In general, date entry in many products defaults to today's date which clearly is a flaw for entering a birthdate because babies of 0 months wouldn't be using the system! And systems which require a minimum age should start with that date as a default!

As regards WiFi on a Sense, it can be used during initial setup or firmware updates, only on 2.4ghz and if you connect it manually it will quickly disconnect because if it is not being used for anything it is not necessary.

The preferred method of communication is via Bluetooth as this stresses the battery far less. For that reason it is recommended that the watch is on charge when WiFi is used.

G'Day Guy_,

I agree 100%, but it isn't (at least in setup)

I lied and said I was 18 years old so that I could create a Profile and then I was able to put in my correct birthdate via direct entry in my Profile.

babies of 0 months wouldn't be using the system.

Guess again, if I didn't just use the default date, I made myself 1 month old ( I forget, I tried so many things) and Fitbit said that, while they were excited that I wanted to join the, I had to ask my parents (apparently I was a precocious baby) to create an Ace Account for me or put me on their family account.

systems which require a minimum age should start with that date as a default!

Again, I agree 100% but apparently programmers aren't taught how to do that when they are learning to code, as I have yet to find a system that does that.

(My job is to write a program to accept input for a birth date, not to care how easy, hard or logical it is)

Tapping the Month / Year to scroll through the months.

Someone in another Post said that this was possible but neither my wife, myself nor a stylus could get that to work.

I have also encountered the same problem trying to change the clock face from Digital to Analogue.

it is recommended that the watch is on charge when WiFi is used.

I am so old that I remember when new things came with a manual, which became a one page quick start guide, which became a QR code (thereby transferring the printing cost to the Customer) and finally, like fitbit, a Community Forum so that they didn't need as big a Support Section.

If the Fitbit device came with a manual, even a one page quick start guide, it would have saved me the frustration of trying to set up the device via the default 5GHz Wi-Fi service I use (presuming Fitbit tell you that and you don't have to go to the Community Forum and search for answers like I had to).

The preferred method of communication is via Bluetooth as this stresses the battery far less.

I don't know about that, I started the Bluetooth process and the battery got stressed because the device was on charge at 93% when Bluetooth said the battery was flat and aborted the setup.

As an added Bonus:

Every time I changed the colour in this Post, I was taken back to the first line and had to scroll back down to where I was before I changed colour, even though the Toolbar was always visible, no matter how far down the page I was.

Another great feature brought to you by Fitbit ( which according to Fitbit's Spellcheck, is incorrectly spelt no matter how you capitalise it).

Thank you

Garry
