I recently upgraded from Charge HR to Charge 2, and ever since the Fitbit app on my Android phone stops working seconds after opening it -- every time.   Error message I get is simply: "Unfortunately, Fitbit has stopped."  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app multiple times, but no luck.

Hello @Patgood, In these cases is the OS version of the Android device that is not supporting the new version of the Fitbit app. If your phone hasn't a new version of Android available it depends of the manufacturer support. I have a similar case with an iOS device where I wasn't able to update the OS and neither the Fitbit app, therefore my tracker was syncing sporadically.

The bright side is that you are able to sync with your computer for now.

For anything else let me know. I'll be around.

Hello @Patgood, its nice to see you are visiting the Fitbit Community again. I'm wondering if your Fitbit app is running the latest version for Android which is 2.45?

To see what version of the Fitbit app is installed on your device:

  1. Tap the menu button.
  2. Tap Help.
  3. Tap Fitbit App.

When the app is crashing, most of the times is due to the app is not updated. However this will depend also of the OS of your phone. If your phone is not allowing to update the app to the most recent version try to update the version of your Android OS. Also make sure your phone is listed as supported device in the following link: https://www.fitbit.com/device.

As an additional note, remember that you can sync with your computer too. When having Windows 10 it's possible to download the Fitbit App for Windows 10 from the Microsoft store which is capable to use Bluetooth of the computer (when the computer has native Bluetooth) or you have a Fitbit dongle. For more details please visit the following post.

Hope this helps and let me know how it goes.

Hi Roberto, and thanks very much for your reply.

I think you've identified the problem. My app version is 2.15.1. It's the only one my phone seems to want to install, however. My phone tells my I have the latest available version of Android so it seems I'm stuck for now. (The phone is a Samsung Galaxy Core LTE, which is on the list of approved devices.)

Anyway, I think I'll just use my laptop for now. Thanks again for the advice.

This is completely unacceptable. I don't carry my computer around with me do you? I've had numerous fitbit devices over the years, but I think this one is my last.

Agreed! I can still update on a computer but now I can't track my miles per minute or how long my runs are. It sucked that the person at the store lied to me about those things being tracked by my Alta. I took it in stride and figured out how to run with my phone . Now my fitbit phone app won't work. Why did I even buy a fitbit in the first place . All I needed was an app and a phone. Now I'm using another app. So why wear the Fitbit? Hmmmm I hope they fix this problem with my phone before I decide to get another brand of tracker. I amam goi to upgrade for my birthday next month but I'm worried about doing it with Fitbit if the app won't work .

I have the same problem with my Charge3 & Sansung Galaxy Grand Prime Android phone. It is SO frustrating! I work in a busy restaurant, doing deliveries, & I don't have access to my laptop at home, to check the FB app. I don't CARE if it syncs to my computer. I want it to work for more than 30 seconds on my wrist. What do we do if our phone won't download the latest update? Am I supposed to buy a new phone?? This is SO frustrating!
