About the Fitbit Alta and the Huawei Honor 6X

I wanted to share with you my experiences getting my wife's Honor 6X to work with her new fitbit alta. It was given to her as a gift and while the honor 6x is supported, I could not get it to connect. After some research I got it work and came to the conclusion the problem is interference between the phone's WiFi, Bluetooth signals and Alta's Bluetooth signal.

To perform the initial connection I did the following:

1. Turn off WiFi on the phone (to eliminate the interference between the phones signals)

2. Connect the device to the charger (so that it can go into connect mode)

3. Follow the app's connection steps at a distance (10 feet)

The last part is important. Because in addition to the interference between the WiFi and Bluetooth signals, it seems there is further signal noise issues between the phone's Bluetooth receiver and the signal emitted by the Alta. I read about other folks having success connecting their other fitbit devices as long as there some distance between the device and the phone. For me, about 10 feet (yes, about 3 meters) did the trick.

Syncing is a similar affair.

1. Turn off WiFi on the phone

2. Follow the app's syncing steps at a distance (10 feet)

In my opinion, this is stop-gap solution. Either fitbit or Huawei need to update their Bluetooth transmitters to work better with each other. Huawei is the second-largest manufacturer of phones in the world, so I think it would be wise for fitbit to take the lead as it is probably more agile than Huawei.

I hope you find this helpful with other devices.

Footnotes:

* In my research I noted the fitbit device was never visible (as a bluetooth device) on the honor 6x, but visible by other devices

* If WiFi is left turn on on the phone, there is no amount of distance that will get it to sync or connect

* Syncing and connecting require an internet connection, so my suggestion may not work for those who do not have a working (reliable) data connection on their phone

* If you run into the app getting stuck in sync mode, for us it can take up to 10 minutes, so be patient, but if necessary "force stop" it and try again.
