Accuracy of Charge 2 and other Devices

I have used a Charge HR for the last couple of years and have been satisfied with trhe results.  This week I upgraded to a Charge 2 and do not understand the results as it seem to be underestimating the steps.

I run 23km every Saturday amongst other runs in the week and last week the old Charge HR registered about 28000 steps as every other week.  This week  with the new device, it registered 23km and 23500 steps.

Today my Charge 2 says 12740 steps (11.37km) while my Apple Watch (which I put on my wrist just before leaving the house) says 14974 steps (10.48km).  My old Fitbit One says 15956 steps (11.33km).

I don't understand how these devices can be so different.  Within 10%, I could accept, but how can you rely on such different measurements.  Has anybody else had the same experience and is there a fix?

Hello @SunsetRunner, good to see you here in the Fitbit Community again. I would not recommend to compare the distance and steps from your Charge 2 with your Apple watch since both devices are using different technologies to read your data.

However you are correct when you mentioned the difference shouldn't be so high. If you feel that your step count and distance are inaccurate, first make sure the wrist placement settings are correct. Next, double check that you entered your height correctly. Since we use height to estimate your walking and running stride lengths, you may want to measure and manually adjust these values.

To measure your walking stride length:

  1. Go to a track or some place where you're sure of the distance.
  2. Count your steps as you walk across that distance, making sure you travel at least 20 steps.
  3. Divide the total distance (in feet) taken by the number of steps to get your stride length.

Your running stride can be calculated the same way if you run instead of walk.

This should improve the accuracy of your tracker. Hope it helps!
