Alta HR won't display caller name/text messages with Android V 8.0.0 & Samsung Exp V 9.0

I just updated my Fitbit Alta HR app and suddenly it no longer displays the caller name and will not display text messages.  In fact when I get a call or text, the fitbit does not even acknowledge it. I deleted and reinstalled the app and I restarted the fitbit device and nothing. I read the forums and found nothing different that would help. My Samsung S8+ has Android V8.0.0 (Oreo) and Samsung Experience V9.0 and these have been running successfully since May 2018. My phone DOES NOT have

Android V 9(Pie). So, all was well until I updated the Fitbit app today. 

 

Out of options, I opened a chat with Fitbit and the rep told me that their engineers were aware of the problem with "Android V9.0 PIE" (their words, not mine) and that it was directly affecting caller ID and texts. Also, that is was a know and widespread issue. So, is anyone else currently experiencing this same issue currently?

Yes I also have Samsung s8 and 3 different fitbits and all having the same issue
