The app is not letting me connect facebook friends.

@ChrisLaMaster Welcome to the Community! Please make sure that you already paired your Fitbit account with Facebook by doing this procedure: Go to the app > tap on friends > tap on the + symbol > tap on Facebook > Connect Facebook. 

After both accounts have been paired then your Facebook friends will show there. In case you don't have any suggestions the reason is because your friends don't have paired Fitbit with Facebook.
