Android app does not update the home screen after adding new calorie intake on the "Food" interface

When adding new calories on the "Food" screen, the total in the "Today" area in the middle of the screen updates right away.

So, for example, in this screen I have added a meal of 350 calories, bringing my total so far to 900 calories:

However, when I go back to the app home screen, The label that shows the current "calories in" total has not been updated. It only shows the total from before I added the new meal:

To be more accurate, the behavior is random. Sometimes it updates, sometimes it updates after a long delay, sometimes it only updates after you close the app and reopen it, and sometimes it does not update no matter what you do and may not reflect your current calorie intake until hours later.

Most often, it does not update right away, and the app has to be shut down completely and restarted, in which case most times it will update. But not always.

I have tried logging out, clearing cache, rebooting the phone, and reinstalling. However, this problem persists. It is not a cache or data issue, it is that the Android app is unreliable when it comes to simple math.
