Since the "new ownership" app has rolled out every time I go to check my steps I find that the android app has logged me out, and so the app has not been syncing with my device. I now have very patchy sleep data because my device only holds a weeks worth of that data, so once I log in and manually sync I have lost data. Just logged in today to find that it hasn't synced for 13 days. Useless!

Hi, @harrit, welcome, may I suggest you review the app settings on your phone? From settings>apps>Fitbit>permissions (allow all)>storage & cache (Clear cache)>mobile data & WiFi (allow background data & unrestricted data usage)>app battery usage (unrestricted)
Bear in mind the phone's Bluetooth & connection to the internet (by WiFi or cell network) need to be active.
Let us know how you get on by posting here again.
Cheers

@Gr4ndp4 You appear to have totally misread my problem, so your solution is for some other issue
My app and device sync just fine when I'm logged in to the app. My problem is that the app keeps logging me out. It doesn't sync when it isn't logged in.

Hi, @harrit, thanks for your comments. Of course, your device does not sync when the app is logged off. The question is why is your app logging off, under normal circumstances, it will remain logged on unless you turn off your phone or log out.
Permission settings can cause unintended consequences depending on other phone settings, the point is to allow them all to prevent this. You can always go back & disallow those you are uncomfortable with one by one to identify any disruption culprits. The first order of business is to get your device & app syncing.
Clearing the cache will remove any previous ghosts in the machine that might disrupt syncing or cause app close down or disconnection.
Mobile data & WiFi are needed, uninterrupted, to sync If the settings "allow background data & unrestricted data usage" are not allowed your devices may stop talking to each other. If these settings are absent data usage may be interrupted at any time.
If the App battery setting is not unrestricted the app may close down without warning.
I would add another setting, in app permissions swipe up to the bottom & ensure "Pause app activity if unused" is turned off. Some mobile phones do not treat the Fitbit app as essential whereas we need it to run constantly in the background.
Once you have these settings adjusted, manually sync (by sliding your finger down the "Today" screen & releasing)
Restart your phone.
The problem you report is not widely experienced so I conclude it's a settings issue of some kind.
