First let's define what days make up the leaderboard. It is today plus the last 6 days.
For daily average let's look at the 6 full days.
For example. Let's say that today is the 7th, we need the step count from the first through the sixth.
Take the total steps from the leaderboard, subtract today's steps and divide this number by 6. The result is your average steps per day.
My leaderboard says
86,329 steps
578 for today.
Or 85,751 (86,329-578) in the last 6 days.
85,752/6 days = 14,291.8 per day.
Fitbit says my average is 14.291
My comment about not being able to look over your shoulder is because the question simply was average step count is wrong, but gave no details as to back up or explain why it is thought to be wrong.
When asking for help. We need the post to contain details.

Is it wrong?
In what way is it wrong? Sorry but can't look over your shoulder.
Over how many days is the average steps calculated.
The leaderboard is today plus the last 6 days.

That's not nice what's your face. You can't look over my shoulder!!! Who ask you to do that? I ask a question and at least, if you are professional as you might think you're. Act as such. Use appreciate words when addressing someone. FYI! This week the same thing. 2 days and I have a total of 34,000 steps. How does the Average each day record/ come by? Do you calculate by dividing the amount by two days to get day 3 average?

Now I appreciate that approach. I got my answer from the example of your leaderboard. Now I will caculate my Average by my daily steps!
Thanks!
