Bug Report: Not Reporting Exercise Time Correctly - Some Exercise Drops Off

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

The is a recent development - Probably started in Early August 2021.

My exercise workouts are no longer recorded as 1 single workout.  Fitbit has started breaking the early part of the exercise off and reports it separate from the rest of the workout. When the first 'break out' part is less than the10 minute minimum -- it simply drops off and I don't get credit for that part of the workout.

Example ---  a 69 minute treadmill workout -- all at the same speed except for the cool down -- got reported as 60 minutes.  The first 9 minutes were reported separate and since that exercise length is less than 10 minutes it doesn't count -- I simply don't get credit for it.

Another example -- to demonstrate this workout splitting. Another 69 minute workout was broken apart into the first 26 minutes reported as elliptical. The second part was reported as a 43 minutes Walk. This one totaled the 69 minutes -- but you can see that if the first part is reported as 9 minutes or less -- It doesn't show up at all.

My pace is 4.0mph -- so there is no mistaking that this is a workout.  The cooldown portion is always connected to the last part of the exercise -- it is the first part of the exercise that is reported incorrectly.

Prior to early August -- this 'splitting' did not occur.

This matters because my exercise gets reported to a connected health care app. The health care app awards points for calories burned during exercise.  With your new method that breaks apart the early part of the exercise -- I don't get the points I should be awarded.

I use a Charge 3.

Please investigate.  You should have a more direct way of reporting a bug

Not meaning to disregard your issue at all, but it sounds you are relying on auto-recognizing exercise, and wondering if you have tried using the Exercise App to record exercise sessions.  You tell it when you start and end the workout, hopefully avoiding issues like you are experiencing.

How do I track my workouts with my Fitbit device?

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @smatthewv. Thanks @JohnnyRow for your contribution 😀.

As @JohnnyRow mentioned, it seems that your exercises are being recorded by the Auto Recognized Exercise feature on your Charge 3 as explained on this help article. I recommend you make a test by deactivating that feature on the Fitbit app by tapping on your profile's picture > Activity & Wellness > Exercise and select the exercise where you want to turn off the Auto Recognized Exercise feature. Then try using the Exercise feature on your Charge 3 to track your activity and see if this solves it.

Hope this helps.
