Calorie burn massively inaccurate

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've inputted my date of birth, age and weight. According to FitBit; when I run 5 kilometres and have a normal day at work, I'm expending 4000 calories! I'm only eating 2000.

I wouldn't be so heavy if that was the case! What's the issue?

According to my Ionic, my calory burn seems to be on the high side, just like you.  I estimate it to be 30-40% too much.

Welcome to the Forums @SunsetRunner and @SunsetRunner. Hello @JGobeil.

It is possible that it is because of the HR. Is the tracker showing a high HR? If it is, it could lead it to overestimating the calories that are being burned. Additionally, is activity also being overestimated or would you say that it has been accurate?

Look forward to your reply.

Hello!

No idea about the heart rate as Fitbit is the only medium I use & trusted as I was under the impression that's part of the features.

Activity is accurate as I run regularly but there's no way I;m burning 4000-5000 calories per day; I wouldn't be 3 stones overweight

Hey @SunsetRunner.

The HR is indeed a feature of the tracker, and it is used to better estimate how much calories you burn. What I mean is that perhaps your Fitbit is recognizing your HR as much higher than what it really is. Could you check at random moments during the day to see how high it is? Or if you notice any inconsistencies with it.

Look forward to your reply.

Running 5K I would expect to burn around 300 calories but there are some things which need to be noted.

A heavier person (which is what you implied you are) will always burn more calories than a lighter person doing the exact same run.

Couple this with an inaccurate heart rate will inflate that number even higher.

Pretty on point with what you said. Hopefully this explain a bit what could be happening.

If there are any questions, please let me know.
