Can't Force Quit Fitbit App

ANSWERED

I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this.

I go into apps in Android 7.1, click the Force Quit button. The Force Quit button remains selectable, which usually indicates the app did not quit.

Usual behavior is that the Force Quit button once selected, stays gray, showing that it can't be re-selected because the app is already closed.

This has caused me to doubt whether Force Quit is actually terminating the Fitbit app processes or not.

Hello @WavyDavey, nice to see you around! I replicated the scenario you described and indeed, once you tap in Force stop button with the Fitbit app it doesn't gray out as it happen with other applications.

The reason of this, is that the app has access to other process of the phone; in other words it is require the app runs in the background for call / text notifications and all day sync, among other features. However do not think you are not force closing the app. The difference is that it will re-active all the process automatically so your phone will detect is running again.

Hope this explanation helps and let me know if you have other questions.

Thanks @RobertoME, that makes perfect sense. I asked because there are fixes/workarounds sometimes that call for force quitting the app.  Will this be enough with the other processes re-starting, or would it be better in general to just restart the phone instead of force quit?

Hi there @WavyDavey, glad to see you find helpful my explanation. Regarding your question, restarting the phone and force closing the Fitbit app, in basic terms is almost the same; since in both scenarios you will stop the app processes from running in the background.

Personally I like to recommend both workarounds at the same time when a new update comes available or certain scenarios that I would consider necessary. The reason of this is because with a restart you will reset all the process in the background which will make the OS of the phone assimilate the update of the app; while doing only a force closed, is just resetting the Fitbit app individually.

See you later and stay awesome. Thank you for all your participation and help in our Fitbit Community!

I am pretty unhappy with your Fitbit Android App. It's killing my battery. I tried force stopping and rebooting the phone but it didn't work. Since I've bought the watch recently, I'll return it if I can't find how to solve the issue.

Of course they ignore your post. That's all fitbit can do is ignore posts they can't answer and comment on the **ahem** kissing posts people make saying fitbit is great. Not being able to force kill an app in android means there is a bug, it's not a feature. The nerve of these **ahem**

Indeed pretty sad that we cannot force stop the app. It keeps restarting. I typically sync once a week to save battery life.
