If you have not done this yet, please try logging in into your account on the fitbit.com website. If it still does not work, wait a few hours tp try again. Usually changes take effect immediately. However, this time could have taken longer. It's a possibility.
From what I could see on your community profile, this is your original account, since it been active for years already. That means you are still in control of your account. You can try logging in with your smartphone's mobile data instead of the Wi-Fi or viceversa.
