Hello @MuzzK thanks for bringing this to my attention, welcome to the Community Forums. It's a pleasure to assist you with your concern.

Seems odd that you're able to chance your profile picture but not the cover. To better assist you with this situation, can you please let me know which Android mobile device you're currently using to do this? Do you receive an error when trying to change the photo or it just never loads? If you receive an error message, please provide a screenshot so I can investigate further. You can see this post to do so. In the meantime I receive your answers, please try the following:

  1. Make sure that your mobile device is up to date
  2. Force quit the Fitbit app
  3. Reboot your mobile device
  4. Reinstall the Fitbit app

Let me know if you have any additional questions, I'll be here.

I have the Fitbit App in an Android device. I looked up the Fitbit Help section on how to change the cover picture in the profile. https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1294#coverphoto
Step 3 says there should be a gear icon next to the cover picture, but there is no gear icon. The only thing that appears is the three small dots on the right side, and the only option I get when I click on the three small dots is to report the profile.

There is also another bug that happens when you scroll down on the profile. As you scroll down, the profile picture completely disappears. You have to leave the profile completely, and then come back to the profile for the picture to come up.

I have the same problem.

Request format error

I am trying to change cover photo through website  fitbit.com instead from any App (iOS / Android)  all Failed with same error.

It looks like the fitbit Server has problem of verify incoming data.

response:

{"success":false,"errors":[{"detail":"Failed to upload image","title":"Invalid Parameter"}]}

request:

request debug info

second half of request

it seems that Cloudflare has been doing something bad toward the JSON data posted.

Hopefully, the engineer from fit bit can figure it out why it cannot upload photos.

On Chrome browser, I get the error:

Ember AJAX Request POST <API URL REDACTED BECAUSE YOUR FORUMS ARE SAYING IT'S INVALID HTML> returned a 413 Payload (test/plain) **

I get a similar error:

Ember AJAX Request POST https://web-api.fitbit.com/1/user/-/cover-photo.json returned a 413 Payload (text/plain)  ""

Any ideas how to solve this?

I get the same error in Chrome and Edge (chromium). Both updated to the most recent stable / general release versions available today.

It just started working for me at one point. I don't recall if I rebooted my phone, device and/or computer or just waited a few days but eventually I was able to complete the task with no issues. It was nothing more convoluted than a reboot or time - wish I could remember which.

I do have the same error, also on Edge and Chrome. I also can't change my profile picture using the fitbit app on my android phone. I don't know if someone found a fix.

I get the same thing. It's also happening on my app (I am using android). The PC shows the ajax request post error and on the app when I try to upload or use any picture it says that Editing is not supported for this image.

Both my wife and I get the exact same error. Have tried Mac OSX and Windows on Safari/Chrome/Firefox/Edge Browsers.

Any update?

Nope still can't on either platform. Seems like something so basic that
shouldn't be an issue.

This issue has been around for a year and a half and Fitbit still hasn't fixed it? It's the million little things like this that add up to poor customer and product support and why people I know are moving away from the Fitbit platform to others like Garmin. Very frustrating. Where are the software engineers and product development team??

Best Answer

I agree.  I have tried every solution recommend.  Nothing works.  To top it off, after support supplies a recommendation they turn off comments to the post so you can't reply. Seriously thinking about going to Garmin.

Best Answer

This didn't fix the issue.  Now instead of an error it says editing not supported for this item.

SOLVED, I think -- at least for some users like @neogeek@Cocksy, and possibly @PatrickSun (and those who upvoted their posts).

On Chrome, I got the same "Ember AJAX ..." error as @neogeek., ending in an empty string "".

On Firefox, I got a very similar message, but the empty string was replaced by a more helpful message indicating that the file was too big.

Indeed, googling for "error 413" would have told me that this was the HTTP error code for "Payload Too Large".

I reduced the resolution further and then was able to upload it on Chrome.  I assume this was because I reduced the resolution, and not just that the problem fixed itself for some other reason.

@RicardoFitbit, can you please report this issue up the chain?  The file upload dialog box says that the file has to be < 3M, and indeed, I got a Javascript message saying so when I tried to upload a 5.6M selfie from my phone.  So I cropped it to 2.7M, but this resulted in the mysterious HTTP error 413.  The problem was solved when I downsampled further, to < 1M.  So I think the problem is that the actual limit on the server is lower than the 3M claimed by the dialog box and checked by the javascript.  You should make them match.

It does not appear as though this issue has YET to be fixed as I just tried to upload a new cover photo and received the same error message. I, too, reduced my picture to 2.45 MB [under the required 3] and it did no good.

Help? Any actual solutions found to this? It's been the whole year from the looks of it. 😞

Thank you.
