First time fitbit user and trying to add a friend....keep getting this error message saying failure to send friend request. Do you have to be on premium to add friends?

It is not necessary to have Fitbit Premium to add friends. Please make sure to follow the instructions in this article to add friends.

Hello! I am a fellow Fitbit user who had a similar problem. I could not add a friend or receive a friend request. Frustrating! To answer your question, no. You do not need to have a premium subscription to send/receive friend requests. With that said, consider the adding/receiving friend requests as broken code. Don't bother with it!
To add a friend on Fitbit, simply create a new challenge, in the app or on the web, then invite your friends with their email address. (Adding people through a Challenge automatically adds them as a friend!). I hope this helps! There are lots of forums of people having the same issues and I hope my discovery can help you out.
