Compatibility with Android

So what I've gathered so far about the fitbit Alta is that it's basically an iOS compatible device. Very limited support for Android.  I did not do my research unfortunately and found out that it's not compatible with my wifes android device.  I assumed that it would just work like every other device that states android compatibilty.  Typically just need a certain version of android not a specific phone. The notifications were one of the big reasons for getting this device and these do not work with my wifes phone.  Not sure what determines which android phones get put on the list but please add the Huawei Honor 5X.

I don't think any Fitbit trackers are designed to be iOS compatible over Android, @SunsetRunner, but not all versions of iOS are supported and not all versions of Android are supported. If you go to the Supported Devices page for the Alta, it will list the Android devices that are currently supported. Devices are constantly being added and removed from that list.

I looked at the compatibility chart and it looks to me like every iOS device is there from the 4s to the 7 plus. Minimum iOS 8 or newer. I understand that there are a lot more android devices out there but unless you use a Samsung or an Apple device your chances of fitbit supporting message notifications is rather slim. Not directly designed to be iOS compatible over Android but it definitely doesn't hurt.
