I'm wondering when the fitbit charge 2 will be compatible for a Samsung j5.

Unfortunately, @Rachel79, no one in the Community has any way of knowing that.  Fitbit is adding devices all of the time, but there is no schedule for doing so. The best thing you can do is keep checking the Fitbit Compatible Devices list to see if it has been added.
