Connected GPS is running message and battery drain

Dear Fitbit support team,

I'm owner of a Charge 3 paired to an Android device. Recently (couple of weeks?) I noticed that my phone battery is draining much faster than usual on most days when that message is appearing. At the time I'm writing, I woke up, and I confirmed that the Charge 3 correctly tracked my sleep, yet the GPS has been running since yesterday evening. Please note that yesterday evening I didn't have any tracked activity. Rebooting the tracker did not solve the problem. Closing the app did not help either (the message from Fitbit comes with a system notification that Google Play services app is using GPS). I started to investigate and found that other users are having the same issue, but could not find a solution. Please let know whether you acknowledge this issue as an app or tracker issue and let me know your latest suggested workaround.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards

EM

FYI:

Charge 3 firmware 28.20001.63.5

Fitbit app version 3.11 (20243448) running on OnePlus 6T, Android 9

Hi @ErnestoM, welcome to the Community Forums!

Thanks for bringing this to my attention and for all the details that were shared in your post, your effort and patience troubleshooting this situation prior to posting are appreciated too. To better assist you with this, can you please let me know how many times you experienced such inconvenience with the Fitbit app? If you haven't already done so, please try the following steps:

  1. Force quit the Fitbit app.
  2. Uninstall the app from your mobile device.
  3. Make sure that the Android version is up to date.
  4. Reboot your mobile device.
  5. Reinstall the Fitbit app.
  6. Login using your account credentials.
  7. Let me know if the issue persists.

Keep in mind that the OnePlus 6T is not listed as a compatible device with our products and services as shown on our help article: Which phones and tablets can I use with my Fitbit watch or tracker?. Therefore, you can experience certain connection difficulties with it and your Fitbit device.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Dear Ricardo,

It happens again. This week already 2 times. And exactly same condition as described above. See attached screenshot:

And again I'm experiencing battery drain.

Please note the battery consumption shortly after unplugging the phone from the charger:

Only Fitbit draining battery while certainly I did not activate any activity tracking with GPS. To stop that, I have to start an activity, wait few seconds, then finish it, then delete from dashboard...

I don't like the fact that you blame the phone without evidence or investigation. Do you have relevant evidence of this specific problem occurrence with OnePlus, or more specifically, OnePlus 6T phones? FYI, I have no other Bluetooth related issue and, other than these occasional GPS activations, they work pretty well together. By the way, respect to last post, the phone now runs on Android 10.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to isolate and prevent the problem.

Thanks in advance

E
