Edit Treadmill Distance

I'm a new Fitbit user and logged my first treadmill run last night. The calculated distance was way off: 1.83 miles according the app, 1.89 miles according to steps x stride length, but 2.25 miles in actuality.

I know I need to do some connected GPS runs to have the app/my Versa calculate my proper stride length but in the meantime how to I edit the activity (and future activities) to reflect the correct distance?

Tracking historical speed and distance information and progress for my runs (treadmill or otherwise) is very important to me.

Accepted Solutions

Then @ChrisPsnacks I would increase the stride by 1.23.

As for edit, this is limited to the type of exercise. And works fir Workouts and auto detected exercises .

Have you tested the step count accuracy .

If you were holding hand rail with fitbit hand at all, steps will not be detected during that time which might explain the distance difference.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

No, I wasn't holding the hand rail at all.

I'm not expecting the step count to be 100% accurate, or even the distance calculated by steps x stride being completely accurate, but I would like to be able to correct an error when I know it exists. That is why I'm just looking to edit the activity with the correct distance. I don't mind having to manually fix this, but I need to know how to fix it.

Looking at support articles I've found that there's supposed to be an edit option when looking at the activity on the app but I'm not seeing it. I tried downloading the Windows app to see if I could edit it there; I was able to edit the activity but only time and date, not distance.

For the purpose of record keeping and progress tracking, a 20% margin of error in speed and distance is quite substantial.

Thanks @Rich_Laue. Although disappointing, it's good to know that I can't edit distance on treadmill exercises.

I'll increase my running stride length by 1.23 and see what happens on my next treadmill run. I may also give tracking a treadmill run as just a "Workout" and try editing that after the fact.

This is marked as solved but I am unable to edit my distance in my app after my treadmill or elliptical workout has measured it inaccurately... I have spent many hours searching the internet for a solution and have found that android users are stuck with not being able to fix this. This results in very inaccurate stats. I never would have switch from garmin if I had known this. I'm mind boggled that Fitbit has not fixed this yet!

@Plundberg  have you added your vote to the feature request to have this feature added to the Android app?

The only solution right now is to add your vote and encourage Fitbit to add this feature

That is why the thread has been marked solved. The solution is to let Fitbit know that Android wants the same options iOS users have.

I'm new to the whole Fitbit community, how do I add my vote? I am desperate to get this feature added! Or even a 3rd party app to track my exercises accurately.

As a workaround, such activity like a treadmill or indoor rowing should be logged manually after being tracked. When logging use the start time, duration and calories from the tracked exercise. For the distance use whatever the machine shows. Log the activity and delete tracked one. That's the only way for now ( and probably forever ).

I tried that except it doesnt even ask for a distance so that also is pointless. Basically I'm being told I wasted my money on a Fitbit versa because Fitbit is behind on technology.

If you log it as a new activity manually you can type the distance:Screenshot_20190326-163234_Fitbit.jpg

For start time, duration and calories use whatever tracking the Treadmill has. For distance use what the machine shows you. Log it and delete tracked Treadmill from the activity log.

A good third party app that I use is strava. You can upload your activity to strava and edit every aspect of it from there.

If I log it as Bike or as a Run it gives me the option to enter distance but not under treadmill or elliptical.

Best Answer
Yes, you'll have to log it as a run and then you'll be offered two tags, "commute" and "treadmill." Choose treadmill.

Hello everyone.

I apologize for the delay in my response. @Rich_Laue Thanks for being around to help.

Be sure to support this suggestion about being able to edit distance on the Android app. You can support it by voting for it or commenting on it. Be sure to read the FAQ to better understand how that board works.

I'd also like to thank @Plundberg and @Big_mama for sharing their process to log the treadmill activities. You can click here to see @Plundberg's post about it. Or you can do as @Big_mama mentioned and connect your Fitbit and Strava accounts

Feel free to reach out with any further questions.
