Estimated daily calories continues to not work -- fail.

I've double checked and Fitbit has all data needed to provide estimated daily calories:

- Saved food plan (in my case, 500 calorie deficit daily)
- Age
- Current Weight
- Sex
- Activity level with constant wearing of the device
- Logged exercise
- Logged food

The estimated daily calorie intake just often does not keep pace and seems impervious to activity level or food intake. I can log in two slices of pizza and get the same remaining calorie estimate for the day. I can talk a 3 mile walk and not see my daily calorie estimate change at all.

This feature, along with a obsessive logging of food that borders on an ED, was key to an extremely successful weight loss effort in 2019. Now that I've gained back some of that weight an want to try to drop a bit of it, the loss of that tool has certainly had a negative impact on making progress towards that goal.

Disappointing to say the least.

Hi, @KCTK welcome, after you've entered the new "two slices of pizza" you'll need to manually sync the Fitbit app to trigger the function. In the "Today" screen slide your finger down the screen & release to see the gree sync bar progress from left to right at the top of the screen. You may find this article of interest How do I track my food with the Fitbit app? - Fitbit Help Center , I apologise if you've already seen it.

The problem @Gr4ndp4 is that syncing no longer works and hasn't for months. Now I have to do math until it randomly decides to update. Which can take days to sync correctly.

Hi, @KCTK thanks for the feedback, your Fitbit app should sync each time you open the app, I note your Fitbit app used to sync regularly but has now become unreliable. I do not think this is a general issue, there would be far more posts about it if that were the case. (something has changed that is causing your problem) Why won't my Fitbit device sync? - Fitbit Help Center and the links it contains provide guidance & advice that may help you move forward. As you have an Android phone visit the phone's settings>apps>Fitbit>ensure all the permissions are allowed>clear cache>in mobile data usage ensure background data & unrestricted data are allowed>in App battery usage, ensure background usage is allowed>ensure pause app activity if unused is OFF. - sync your Fitbit app manually. I appreciate these steps are referred to in the linked article. Remember you must have a connection to the Internet for syncing to work, the best arrangement is via WiFi to your router, you may find using Cell data is less predictable depending on your service provider & location.

You report syncing does eventually occur so the mechanism appears intact. When you do get a sync is it always in a particular location?

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers

This has been previously noted in the forum amongst others. I have contacted FitBit about this, and customer service has been unable to find the problem. It will eventually synch, the next day, which is not when I need it to synch. This has been a problem since an update to the app sometime ago. It's why I probably won't be going for an Google or Fitbit device for my next health/fitness device. I want something that actually helps me in the moment make solid decisions for my goals and what I've done for day, and Fitbit is no longer it.

I have this issue. The "rolling budget" function is not helpful at the moment. I start the day, when I wake and record my sleep, it show yesterday's total calories. Eventually it will back down to maintenance calories less my meal plan deficit despite having done a workout. Maybe at some point in the day it will get close but overall my day is some form of the screenshot shared by KCTK. There is often a lag between the various displays of calories consumed and calories burned. Next often the little meter will still show in the wrong as far as over/under/on budget.

Maybe it will be better now that I had to give the app permission to use my location at all times?

Until recently I wasn't really using or interested in this sort of rolling budget. I just ate to a set number of calories no matter my activity. But with my exercise it seemed a set number wasn't cutting it. I've been noting this lag for a few weeks now.

Complaining didn't get my ability to reassign guest weigh-ins back. With the mess that is the "recent food" list still being a mess (stuff I haven't eaten in a year is always at the top of my recent list but still have to scroll through the whole list to find the new chicken product I've been eating a couple times a week for the last month.) Didn't see the point mentioning this. Came here looking for information on something else and saw this.

Yeah, this has been going on for a really long time. The problem is things don't update when you synch.

A prime example is my metrics for yesterday. I didn't bother logging in any food yesterday, but the software has more than enough data to figure out what my calorie budget for the day would have been to keep me "at budget" for a 500 calorie deficit. But what does it say? It shows I had 1665 calories available despite Fitbit estimating I burned 2700 calories. It should have updated to show I had 2200 food calories available to me, and the fact that it doesn't and hasn't is the reason I'll probably stop using Fitbit/Google.
