Fitbit App on Anrdoid very slow download

For over 24 hours, I have been unable to successfully download the Fitbit app.

The initial problem is upgrading Spotify from free to premium. this worked on Spotify but it was not recognized in the Fitbit app.

Tired uninstalling and installing the Fitbit Spotify connector, no change to symptoms.

Tried upgrading the Fitbit app, download stuck at 55% for hours.

Uninstalled Fitbit app,

Now unable to download the Fitbit app.

After 2 hours "waiting for download", left it to run overnight. In the morning, stuck on 56% download.

After 6 hours today, it is still stuck on 55% download.

Is this a known problem?

Are you saying that you are having problems downloading the Fitbit app from the play store?

Have you tried the Web based store

Yes, thanks. Says Fitbit will be installed on your device soon,  then nothing.
The problem is solved.
My solution:
On the phone, cancel Fitbit install. Then I went Settings/ Apps.
Scrolled down the list of apps, for everything that started with Google Play (Services, games, ...) force stop, clear cache, clear data.
Switched phone off.
Restarted phone, App Store/ Apps/ Fitbit. Repeated the install. Install started normally, then stuck at 46% download. Left the phone alone for a few hours, when I came back the install had completed.
I don't know if all my steps were necessary, but Google Play Services alone and restart phone did not do the trick.
