You CAN and you DO sync without location.
Why are you're asking?
Stop violating my privacy!.

That's not what the message says: it says it's needed for synching. Which it's obviously not. That's deceitful.

Why not ask customer support after reading the article? These are the community forums where it's peer-to-peer help unless a Fitbit Moderator is able to respond. I have my location on, so I don't have your issue.

I think you're missing the point @Odyssey13 , it's an optional setting that appears to be mandatory now. Well apart from the Fitbit privacy policy statement which says that it's optional. Oh yes and in the EU it's probably a GDPR or other personal data issue too.

Hi there, @RunKatana and @Widdershins. @Odyssey13 Thanks for the heads up, and your help.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and let me explain that after the release of Android 6, it's required to have location services turned on in order to sync as well as use certain features. While this is still a requirement, you can always turn the locations off whenever you're not syncing your Fitbit device or if you're not using features that requires a constant connection such as the Weather app.
As our friend mentioned, please check this help article which explains more about this topic.

"it's required to have location services turned on in order to sync as well as use certain features"
This is not an answer: Why is 'it' required to have 'location services turned on'. As well as 'certain features' This is nonsense!

Hi there, @RunKatana.
Thanks for getting back and as mentioned before, the location services are required to secure the connection between your Fitbit device and the Fitbit app. Not all features will require you to constantly sync your device; however, some others such as Weather, connected GPS and some clock faces will require this setting to be enabled. You can find the permissions needed for each app and clock face under Devices > your device > Gallery.
Keep in mind that you can always turn off the location services if those features won't be in use. Please make sure to check the help article shared above as in there you'll find more information on why this setting is needed by Fitbit.

From the App Store data details for the Android App it says location in OPTIONAL.

@LizzyFitbit In the screen grab which you have shared it says, in small print, "This app needs all these permissions to function properly. Please turn them on" and a yellow warning triangle is shown. For the non-tech savvy user what do you think that their response would be to these warnings?
In the Android App on the home page it says over the top of the screen, "Can't sync without location permission. Tap to open settings". This is misleading because it still syncs and you can force it to do so on demand by navigating to the device page (sorry the page doesn't have a proper title, but it's the one showing the Gallery, Wallet, How To Use and Accessories icons) and tap on "Sync Now".
If you go to Settings, Help, Legal, Privacy Policy it says in the "GPS and location" paragraph, "But we'll only collect this type of data if you grant us access to your location". This very much sounds like it is optional and not mandatory.
So what is the truth? It's quite confusing with all of these contradictory statements.

I don't have weather on my Fitbit Charge 5 and I don't see any weather in the FitBit app. And if it's optional why do you keep buggin me? Give me an option to turn it off permanently.
And I don't use connected GPS
