My fitbit is synced to my phone. It correctly records everything. But the fitbit display continues to show the website/setup message. What have I done wrong?

Hi there @SadOldGit, welcome aboard to the Fitbit Community and my apologies for the late response. I was reading your Fitbit shows a setup error and I'm wondering how it goes and if the issue still persists?
Which tracker do you have? Usually this behavior is when there is pending a firmware update after the initial set up. For more details please review this article: How do I update my Fitbit device?
If the issue continue and there is not update pending to install, perhaps a restart on your Fitbit device and retrying the setup process will do the trick.

I've ignored the fitbit display because I continue to get all the stats on
my Samsung mobile.
I'm aware that I missed the deadline for confirming my email address but,
despite several messages telling me the email has been resent, it never has.
I can also see that an update is available but every attempt to run the
update has failed.
Reinstalling sounds like a sensible option - I'll have to uninstall first
presumably. I'll have a go after I've finished the ironing. And cooked
dinner. And helped my son with GCSE revision.
Probably do it tomorrow!!
