Fitbit tracked steps when I was sleeping

I woke up to 11053 steps gained between 024-0300 hours this morning  and I was sleep during this time how do I reset my steps and or why did this happen?

Why is this a persistant issue/complaint while sleeping? I understand miscounting steps durinf awake hours but the fitbit device and app literally know when you're asleep. I cant imagine it would be difficult to automatically remove any steps counted within the timeframe of your nightly sleep log!?
