Help just got a Samsung s8 and my flex 2 won't sync with fitbit can anyone help

Unfortunately the S8 doesn't show on the list of supported devices at www.fitbit.com/devices and there is a lengthy thread discussing the problem at https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Android-App/Samsung-Galaxy-S8-S8-Compatibility/m-p/1946855

 

If seems that some people have had limited success but others cannot get it working at all.
