Floors not counting properly on Pixel Watch

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I switched over from a Fitbit Charge 4 to the Pixel Watch and have a regular stair climb routine but the Pixel Watch does not count floors correctly or even remotely close to my Charge. Is there a fix I don't know about? I have updated all software on both watch and phone. Very frustrated! I am climbing at least 10 feet per flight of stairs but will get credit for maybe 1 out of 5 flights. Is it a faulty watch or a universal issue?

Hi there, @RobbyM22. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the issue with your Pixel Watch. Sorry you feel that way about this feature.

Keep in mind that your watch tracks floors by measuring changes in air pressure through the altimeter sensor. If this hole becomes blocked then it can cause this problem. Have you checked that already? For example, the pathway to the altimeter can become clogged temporarily with sweat.  So, please try cleaning it with by following these steps: Clean and protect Google Pixel Watch

Please note that your Pixel Watch stops counting floors while submerged in water. This is expected behavior. But once it is completely dry, your device automatically begins counting floors again.

You can also try to restart your watch to see if this helps.

See you around.

@RobbyM22 Thanks for getting back to me and for trying those steps.

Please, confirm that all apps are updated in your Pixel Watch. To check for app updates on a Pixel Watch, do the following:

  1. Click the side button to open the app drawer.
  2. Scroll down to “Play Store” and tap it.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and tap “Manage apps”.
  4. If you have app updates, you’ll see them here.
  5. You can tap “Update all” or tap each individually to update them.

How many stairs are you usually getting? Your watch registers a floor when it detects continuous motion combined with an elevation gain. Because the watch looks for continuous motion, pausing too long when going up a flight of stairs can cause the watch to not count the floor. Please note that floors are only counted when going up an incline and not down.

Hope this helps.
