Food plan shows 0 calories out - complete trouble-shooting list

My food plan showed 0 calories out despite another part of the app showing calories out slowly increasing during the day. I searched this forum and found a previous post whose "best answer" was stop using Fitbit. Instead, I reached out to support with all the things I tried, and we finally found the culprit. I use a Pixel 8 phone with a Pixel Watch 3.

Possible solutions (easiest to hardest):

  1. Log out and log back in to Fitbit app on phone. This works for some people but only worked intermittently for me.
  2. Clear storage data for the Fitbit app (Settings->Storage) and log back in. Same as above.
  3. Use "Add more devices" in the Fitbit app to add your watch again. It will replace the previous instance.
  4. Uninstall and reinstall the Fitbit app.
  5. Factory reset watch and reinstall connection to phone and Fitbit.

While 1-4 work for some, I had to get all the way through 5. Now the food plan's calories out stay synced.

My experience with the service team through the help chat was really wonderful. I'm glad to have this figured out.
