GPS and Distance Inaccurate

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

During runs tracked on my android the time is correct but the GPS and distance (and pace) are inaccurate. i have recently switched from iphone where it worked close to perfectly evertytime....Does anyone else have the same problem?

The time is approximately accurate but the distance should be 5k as it's a measured route. The map is something close to accurate but doesn't cover the whole 5k route....The time is approximately accurate but the distance should be 5k as it's a measured route. The map worked up to a point (where the line suddenly becomes straight and veers off) but didn't continue to the end of the route...Again the time is accurate but the distance should be closer to 6k. Hi there @hhfitgirl, I wonder if you are doing something different of what you did with your iPhone? Also I would like to know how you are tracking your GPS route, with MobileRun or Connected GPS? (To learn more about Connected GPS please review the following post)

The environment you are in can affect the signal strength of GPS. For example, if you are doing your exercise in an urban environment with many tall buildings, also if you are exercising in a forest or in place with a lot of trees it may affect the GPS signal at the moment of your exercise.

Let me know how it goes, I'll be around!

Hi @RobertoME, thanks for responding! I'm using the mobilerun app on an android with a flex 2. The only thing I can think of that might be a problem is some setting somewhere in the phone that prevents the GPS mapping and associated distance tracking from working while the phone screen is off or the phone is locked...But the timing still works just fine. I haven't changed anything from the way I was doing it on the iPhone...Only I have an android now (a OnePlus3), so suspect it has to be something in the phone!  Can you help?!

@RobertoME I've just checked all my settings. The location accuracy is on high and the GPS is allowed in the app permissions. Unless there is some hidden setting that prevents the GPS from working when the screen isn't active and the phone is locked I don't know what else it can be. Although saying that one of my runs tracked 3 of the 5k and there's no reason the phone screen would have been on longer for that run.. So perhaps it's not that at all!!

@RobertoME I did a little test with this mornings run and turned the display to sleep only after 30 minutes and the map and distance worked perfectly in conjunction with the timing...  so must be some setting in the OnePlus3 relating to 'display sleep' with the fitbit app....

Hello there @hhfitgirl

If you do not mind, I'd like to make a suggestion. From what you described on your last post, it seems like your mobile's settings are closing or suspending the Fitbit app whenever the phone goes to sleep. Let's try the following:

  1. Access your Phone's settings.
  2. Look for the 'Power Saving' section.
  3. Scroll down and tap the 'Protected apps' option.
  4. On the list that shows there, look for the Fitbit app and make sure the switch for it is turned to the right.

Let's try that and let me know if that improves the situation.
