Google Pixel Watch 4 saves runs as "Structured Workouts"

Hi,

I just switched from an Apple Watch and iPhone to a Google Pixel Watch and Pixel phone.

I'm a runner and I track my workouts to monitor my progress as well as to receive bonuses from my health insurance.

However, the data migration from Fitbit to the health insurance app does not work properly when it comes to running workouts.

I’ve already figured out that the issue is caused by Fitbit classifying my runs as “structured workouts” when I start them manually on the Pixel Watch.

When I track a run directly with my phone, it is recognized correctly as a regular "run", and the health insurance app can read the data without any problems.

Even the workaround using Google Health Connect doesn’t solve the issue. When the health insurance app imports the data from there, it only detects the distance but not the duration. (In the app, I can choose to get my data from either Fitbit or Health Connect.)

Does anyone have an idea how to start running workouts on the Pixel Watch so that they are saved simply as “Run” in the end?

Hello @jnmttn

I'm not a runner so I don't know what troubleshooting to recommend. I've reached out to fellow Pixel Watch 4 users to see if they have any suggestions. They will either respond to this thread or I will report back with their recommendations.

On the watch, are you using the Run Event, or the Workout Event. Have you restarted the watch?

On the watch I start the run from the section where you can quickly choose from six different types of workout. Sorted in the order of what has beens used previously.

I just found out that depending on how you access the run in fitbit on the mobile phone after it has been synchronized you see it as either as run or as structured workout. And when you find it as structured workout you are able to change the category to run, save it and then it can be accessed from the health insurance app.

Not quite a solution but a workaround I can live with.

However I'm confused why the watch and Fitbit software is behaving like this in the first place.

And yes, I have restarted all devices multiple times.
