Gps only connects with phone unlocked and fitbit app open

I'm unable to track my runs effectively because for my fitbit Charge 3 to have a GPS connection, my phone needs to be unlocked and the App open. I am using an Android (Galaxy s20). Any idea how I resolve?

Hi @Squeakable this is because of one of two things.

  • First let's start the Fitbit app.
  • Start an exercise that uses GPS
  • Get the GPS connected and move the Fitbit app to the background.

If the GPS fails tou will need to disable power management with the Fitbit app. Instructions found in the android tips

  • Before the screen times out, the Fitbit app needs to be running in the background.
  • You should be able to start up GPS with the phone locked and notification services running , the main app should not be needed.

Thanks for your message.
I realise that this is not how it is supposed to work!
Having googled the issue again, it appears that the S20 won't allow
connection if I have the notifications turned off, even if I allow running
background data turned on. Irritating but hopefully my next run will be
recorded!
