Heart Rate Zones

Hi Everyone,

I'm starting to take steps to become healthier, and my FitBit will hopefully help me.... Ive had a FitBit forever, but never used it much.

Now, a bit of context, please. I have a minor Heart Condition where I am medicated for it, I naturally run a VERY low RHR of 62.

When I exercise, it will never show my elevated HR because I always run low. Under the Heart Rate Zones, it says here that "light" is <103.

If I am running 100 BPM, that's quite high for me, but Fitbit won't see it that way.

Why don't they allow us to manually set our HR parameters for Light, Moderate, Vigorous, and Peak?

@MarkTheSark   While you can't set your own personalized zones, we are supposed to be able to set a custom maximum heart rate and the zones will be adjusted by the active zone minute formula.  This is the path to set a custom max heart rate:

  • Tap on your profile picture in the upper right of your Fitbit app
  • Tap on Fitbit settings
  • Tap on Heart rate
  • Tap on heart rate zones
  • Tap on Max heart rate
  • Fitbit uses the 220 - age equation to set your default, so pick something lower, maybe 5 bpm less

I recommend making a list of your current zones, so you can see before and after changes.  The AZM zones aren't simple arithmetic, so there is a little trial and error.

This feature is VERY, VERY cranky on the iOS version of the app.  I had to go back and forth between pages and force quit the app several times to make the changes stick.  A friend who is uses Android said the feature was completely broken on the Android version, but now describes the same cranky behavior as the iOS version.

Good luck.  BTW, you must do this on the Public version.  It isn't available on the Public Preview version.

@LZeeW I no longer have access to the regular version of the app. In the Public Preview, I've been able to tell the Coach what values I want it to use for my Heart Rate Zones. The numbers are still incorrect in the list in the app, but the Coach implements the values that I want and applies them correctly.

I'm sorry, but who is The Coach?

@MarkTheSark Coach is the name of the AI in the new Fitbit app, which is currently in Public Preview. If you aren't using the Public Preview, you wouldn't be affected by this yet.
