I have a new Alta HR that I can't get to sync with the Android app

I have a  New fit bit Alta HR that won't sync or takes an excessively long time to sync to my dashboard.  What do I need to do?

A very warm welcome to the Forums  @Walker052.

That sounds quite odd.

Let's try to check that all of the requirements are there for syncing to happen, just to be sure. Is your Android device connected to the internet? If so, is it through Wi-Fi or through mobile data? Is your mobile device compatible? Keep in mind that a device that is not compatible will most likely not be able to sync. Is your Bluetooth turned on?

Look forward to your reply.

Greeting LanuzaFitBit,

Firstly, I was writing that original post on my android, and I really really hate thumb typing.  With that said, these are the facts as I know them.  I owned a FitBit Flex2 originally, and was used to seeing my information sync to my dashboard via mobile or wifi.  Syncing was usually not a problem.  My Android device is a Samsung Note 8 and is completely compatible.  My Bluetooth is nearly always on, and it was the first thing I checked when the device failed to sync on the fly.  My android is connected to the internet both ways, via Wi-Fi and mobile data.  Perhaps I am looking for something that isn’t going to happen?  Am I expecting to see the same sort of behavior I saw with my Flex2.  My Alta HR eventually does grab the data and post it to my dashboard, but when I request it to sync, as I did with my Flex2, the little circle that tells me it’s working on it goes on and on.  So am I looking for something that isn’t going to happen with this model?

Are you sure that the Samsung Note 8 is on the official approved list? To my knowledge it isn't

The device was working fine for my Flex2.  It does eventually sync the data, but not like it did on the fly with the Flex2.

So if it's not a compatible device, when will this be addressed by FitBit and their App?

Mind you I'm not associated with fitbit, I'm only a disgruntled client. And I'm disgruntled exactly because I  haven't been able to get a single answer regarding what they're planning to do regarding the fact that they have stopped supporting android devices.

Hey @Walker052 and @luca85.

@Walker052 The Note 8 is absolutely supported.

As for the syncing situation, are you using the Always Connected option? That usually improves the syncing capabilities. You should be able to find it by going into the tracker's settings on the app itself.

As for expecting the same syncing, it definitely should  work the same.

@luca85 Unfortunately there aren't any news on the matter. I'm sure that as soon as there is something, it will be talked about.

Feel free to let me know if there are any questions.

i meant to do this yesterday, to update the community, but due to the unfortunate loss of my original Note 8 and the subsequent replacement, the app now works as it did not work before.

Thanks so much and yes, happy steppoing!

Hey @LanuzaFitbit, are you really sure that the Note 8 is supported? "Note 8.0" has been written in the approved devices list since at least March 2017 (check the "compatible device list" thread). The Galay Note 8 (which is not called "8.0") has been announced in august 2017 and released around october 2017.

Some I'm pretty sure that the list isn't talking about the galaxy note 8 but it's talking about the first Galaxy note, with an 8.0" display.

BTW, I've been waiting for an answer for more than 8 months and the situation only worsened in this time. You owe us answers about whether fitbit works with android or not.

Hello Again!

I think I posted yesterday that it appears to be working and working exactly as it did with my Flex2.  I am getting real time tracking, and not having to wait any longer.

It's working for me.

Hope you find it working for you too

Hey @luca85 and @Walker052.

@Walker052 Thanks for letting us know that it is working for you. Did you try anything specific in order for it to work?

@luca85 I think you're right on your assessment of the compatibility list. I quickly looked at it and completely missed the '8.0' and saw it as only '8'. Since that seems to be the case, there isn't much I could offer in regards to fixing the situation itself as it comes from the incompatibility.

Having said that, I will try to get more information on what specific device is the compatibility list is referring to and I'll get back to you on that.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Greetings all!

All i did was lose my phone and get it replaced.  I don't recommend this as a solution, of course, but i am happy that it's not working as expected.

Hey @Walker052.

That's certainly a way to go about it.

The good thing is that it is working as expected now.

If you have the time, perhaps you could visit one of our Discussion boards. Lots of different topics to talk about in there.

Hope to see you around.
