I have saltyDog on my Watch, but I didn't see where it tracked me? Any Ideas about sailing out there?

I don't know anything about SaltyDog, but it seems like you should be able to track a map just by calling it a walk with GPS from the Ionic itself.

I have been using the Saltydog app while kayaking. It's fun to see how fast I'm going along with a few of the other details. Is there a way to pull that data to track my efforts and history?

@Jfitman, @DogHouse, @JohnnyRow
I wanted to let you know that I'm currently working on a regatta app. I sail with a catamaran around the cans most of the time. The app is built for this purpose right now.
The app is in development right now and it might not work. I just uploaded my latest release specially for you. If you have any suggestions, comments or thought, let met know.
It currently has a working countdown timer and a tracking screen.
The timer can be set on whatever time but is default to 5 minutes. The sync buttons syncs to the nearest whole minute. The ionic does not have a beeper. The watch vibrate on each minute. 10-5 seconds is also a vibration 5-0 is strong vibration. It shows you the distances to the start line as well.
The track stores the last 200 "lines" A new line is plotted each 20 seconds or when your heading has changed more than 10 degrees (tacks and big shifts). The lines are collored from red, yellow to green varieing from your lowest speed(red), average (yellow) and maximum speed (green). I'm not interested in current speed, only where my speed was higher and lower on the course. Adding speed is relatively easy, i could make this a setting in the future. I've done a test and should be able to get 9 hours of tracking on a full charge.Turning on/off the GPs could improve this. Another option is using the phone's GPS. But the connection between fitbit and the phone is not reliable.
You can download the app here: https://gam.fitbit.com/gallery/app/c1618406-e051-4d90-917f-ffcb79b5aa7e
The picture below shows a test of the tracking screen. this was my commute to home. This was a early version of the app, without the visualisation of speed differences.

Hi Pieter,
I was looking for a Regatta race timer that follows ISAF 5-4-1-0 start procedure, but the only 2 things I could find was this forum topic and SaltyDog. Alas, both seem to be only available on the Ionic, but I own a Versa.
Is it possible to publish your sailing app for the Fitbit Versa?
If you don't mind sharing your code I could even do some tweaks to make sure the layout scales to the different screen resolution. And otherwise I will be a happy beta tester.
Looking forward for your reply.
Tom.

Hi tom,
I've made the app available for the fitbit versa. I did nothing to adjust but it looks good. I already made the UI scalable but it is desgined for ionic. This app included the basic 5,4,1,0 timer... It is acutally a countdown timer which can be synced on whole minutes.
There are many more features but that would require a GPS. If you own a versa, you have to take your phone with you to get GPS. The "Connected" GPS mode is not as reliable as the Ionic.

Hi Pieter,
Just installed your app. The layout looks fine on the Versa, but I was unable to make the timer start. Only hitting the + or - seems to work. Maybe you can make the click region/sensivity upper right a little bigger?
As for GPS, haven't tested this yet but will let you know my experiences. But I already saw a "connected GPS" popup within the app.
Thanks for all your efforts!
Tom

Thank you, thank you, thank you for making your countdown timer available to the Versa!
Is there a way to make the timer roll over instead of stopping at the end? In other words, if I am in a multi-class race and want to set my timer during an earlier start it will keep rolling over so that I can pick up my race later in the sequence?

Hi @Rocpete ,
What i Normally do is set the timer to 10 minutes and start it on the other classes warning signal.. Or 9 minutes if you start on their 4 minute signal. When the timer is not running, you can add minutes by tapping the + icon.

Pietero, thank you, for the suggestion. Again, I am so very glad to have access to your app. When trying to replace my (now dead) pebble, I was gobsmacked by how few watches provide a simple countdown timer much less an app with this level of functionality....

@Pietero -
Is the timer a generic countdown for any number of minutes? Not just 5-4-1-0. I could use it for our 3- and 2- minute starting sequences as well?
I got a Charge 3 for Father's Day to replace my Charge 1 and allow me to take it on the water with me, but am thinking of trading "up" to a Versa Lite so I do not have to wear two!
Is there any way I can load this app into the simulator to check it out?
Thanks!
.Tim

Tim,
The app works only on versa and ionic's. The timer is generic but upon reset it wil go to 5 minutes. With the + or - icon you can add or remove minutes. You can sync on whatever minute you want.
Only app developers can load apps on their simulator.

Hi,
Can you make this available for versa 2?

I cant find it on the versa 2 app store

It wasn't available for the versa 2. It was made for the ionic since it has buttons and a built in GPS. I took some time to convert it and make it work for watches without buttons. You can download it at the link below. I've made this conversion in 2 hours without proper testing. Can you do some testing for me?
