Hello Everyone
I'd love some help figuring out why my "map my walk" app and my fitbit map app do not calculate distance the same when they are turned on at the same time and are running at the same time on my walk.
Second, my stride is about 18 inches, I'm 5'7" with long legs and big feet! Please help me with my math...because I'm not a whiz at this but if my apps say I've walked 2 miles ….that's equal to 5280 x 2 or 10560 feet. If my stride 1.5 feet per step would it not logically then conclude by dividing 10560/1.5 that I've walked 7040 steps? Instead my charge 2 states I've only walked 3723 steps. At that...it would make my stride almost 3 feet?
What am I missing? and How can I get my Charge to sync with my true distance with "map my walk?" and get my steps in line with what I feel I'm actually doing. It's frustrating. I think most of wear these things to get validation and when it's wrong....It's really really frustrating.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your math calculations look good to me.
But:
1) I'm not clear about distance. You say 2 miles. Is that from 'map my walk' or from fitbit? You say they do not calculate the same.
2) For fitbit measurement, are you connected to phone's GPS?
3) Are you using the Fitbit exercise app so you can be sure of getting the exact beginning and end, or are you relying on auto-detection?
4) 18" stride seems short to me. Was that the preset or did you set it? I suggest re-checking that.

Thanks for your reply. Actually my I started the fitbit gps in the app on my android phone and the "map my walk" app on my phone. Map my Walk actually says I walked 2.09 miles and the Fitbit exercise gps said I walked 1.91. miles. I am assuming they are both calculating based upon my phone's gps and I have the fitbit on my left wrist and my phone in my hand during the walk. Hope that helps.
And I did the stride test you suggested and found that I walked 38 feet with 20 strides. But I feel like when I do the stride test, my stride is longer than when I walk outside because I'm so consciously walking. When I walk faster, my stride lessens it seems. But I may be wrong. But let's say my stride is more like 23 inches versus 18. App is still way off in steps, correct? That would still be about 5510 steps in 2 miles, right?
Which app have you found to be most accurate when you run?
