January Update for Andriod 9 and Fitbit Update Not working

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

The problem as I was able to narrow it down is the fact that the bluetooth connection will not be added under Andriod 9.0 system. This will no allow the notifications to be sent to the Fitbit, but surprisingly it will allow you to sync.

I tested this with all Xiaomi Mi A2, Motorola X4, and OnePlus 5 running Andriod 9.0 with January Security updates.

The replication process is this.  When you pair a new fitbit device (I tested with both Charge 2, and Original Charge devices) It will go to the screen that States "Linking with Fitbit app requiered for connectivity features. In order to improve your fitbit experience, you will need to link your tracker and the Fitbit application."  Then a Progress circle will appear and an "Okay" button. You wait about 15 seconds and then the application will show this error message.

Bluetooth Issues If you see this message for the first time, press "Cancel" and try again. If you continue receiving this message, press "Restart Bluetooth" to turn Bluetooth off and on. RESTART BLUETOOTH CANCEL.

No matter which option you select, the application will continue. You will be able to Sync the device. But later will see a pop up message at the button stating.

Couldn't pair with "Fitbit Model" because of an incorrect PIN or passkey.

If you try to disable and reenable notifications the same error will appear once you sync the device.

Now I was able to narrow it down that In the screen of "Linking with Fitbit app requiered". After a few seconds you should get an Andriod security prompt allowing you do add the pairing of a new Bluetooth device. I was able to determine this by Using another Xiaomi MI A2 and a Samsung S8 that were still on Andriod 8.1 using your latest update of the Fitbit app. A security prompt appears when I paired the 2 Fitbit devices. I repeated the pairing process with a Windows Device, IOS, and MacOS with your corresponding apps, and on all those platforms a similar prompt was presented.

Now when I upgraded the Xiaomi Mi A2 to Android 9.0 the Bluetooth pairing was retained and I was able to get notifications on the Charge 2. But if I remove the Fitbit Devices from the app and then try to readd the problem will reappear.

I honestly think that there is a problem with this step and I believe a patch should be released for your Andriod app. I don't think a lot of people has noticed this because they haven't started adding or replacing Fitbit devices on Andriod 9.0, but I really think this will become a problem in the near future.

Thank you I replied to other post where people had the same problem. I noticed that the phones they had where also on the AndroidOne program (pixel motorola xiaomi) meaning they get the latest Android updates directly from Google.  Thank you for your reply I hope this information helps find a fix for the problem.

Following as I am having a similar issue with the Fitbit Alta on  a Samsung A6.  I have reported the problem to customer service and was given a case number.  Unfortunately there is not a scheduled update for the fix and the representative knew it was a known problem.  Please fix this ASAP, getting the notifications is one of my favorite features of the devices.
