I've been using the Android mobile app for over six months with no problems but the most recent update (v.2.42) won't install - I get an error: 'Can't install app, "Fitbit" can't be installed ...(Error code:-504)'.
I've followed Google's suggested troubleshooting path for this type of error, checking space (OK), turning airplane mode on then off, using my mobile data connection, then wifi and then resetting my router. I stopped the Play Store app, cleared the cache etc. but also to no effect. I've also tried removing the battery from my phone to give it a 'proper' power recycle. None of these worked.
All other apps updated by Play Store during this period installed OK (in fact, this is the only app that I've experienced any problems updating).
I've checked out the forums and there is only one query regarding a 504 error but that is from some time ago and the answer doesn't suggest anything I haven't already tried.
At this point I contacted Fitbit support, and on their advice I uninstalled (working) version 2.41 of the app from my phone. I still got Error code 504 when trying to install the new version. I then switched my phone on and off and tried an install but with the same outcome. I subsequently cleared the cache for all apps, reset the phone again and tried to install again but to no avail.
I now have no Fitbit app on my phone and have to rely on my desktop PC to sync - not the best of solutions.
It's very frustrating that Fitbit support appears to regard this issue as a problem with an incompatible phone rather than looking into why this latest update is not as widely compatible as previous versions were.
Is anyone else experiencing this type of problem or have any suggestions?
My phone is an MLAIS M52 Red Note running stock Android 5.0 (specs: MediaTek MT6752; CPU Cortex A53 (ARMv8-A) Octa-Core; 1.7GHz; GPU Mali-T760; 2GB RAM; Bluetooth 4.0). The phone isn't rooted.
