Logged out of app, now can't log in and cannot reset password

So somehow, I logged myself out of the app.  I entered my correct password but it did not work to let me log back in.  So I requested a password reset, but never received a reset email. I tried this several times, but never received an email.  Yes, I checked my spam folder and I'm 100% sure I used the correct email.

So as a last resort, I reinstalled the app and re-registered with the same email address and it actually worked.  But now I of course have lost my history.  What is going on?
