MobileRun missing data after pausing - Android 2.43+

Fitbit Update: 9/26/17

Hello, everyone! I wanted to make it known that I haven't forgotten about this issue with MobileRun. Our team is aware of this ongoing problem, however, I don't have a timeline for when there will be a fix available. I understand many of you are frustrated with this feature, and I hope to give you all more information soon. Thanks for your continued patience!

Just to be clear, this thread is for the MobileRun issue for when you initiate a Run/Walk, if you 'Pause' your activity and then 'Resume' after you finish, you will not see your map or some of your exercise data. Alternatively, this does not happen if you 'Pause' and 'Finish' your Run/Walk right away.

Fitbit Update: 7/20/17

Thanks everyone for providing the information requested about this MobileRun issue. It appears since the Android app version 2.43, users who initiate a MobileRun on their devices and later pause it at some point will not have all the data saved when syncing afterward. This data can include the map and distance data.

I really appreciate your cooperation and patience while our team works towards a resolution. I know many of you have been active on this thread and I want to make sure you know all your input has been very helpful in determining the factors. I will continue to update this thread when there is more information available. Thanks again for your help!

I have the Charge 2 and the 'walk' option can be set on the tracker. Look for it in the app device options, can't just remember where the setting is. Results are the same, intermittently.

The options available to me in the app's device settings are Run, Weights, Treadmill, Workout, Eliptical, Bike, and Interval Workout.  Walk is not an available option there either, at least for me.  I appreciate the suggestion, though.

Wow, 29 pages and no fix... I was suggested to post/ follow this after making another thread (Bluetooth-drops-out-randomly-during-run-ride).

My problem is that since early June, the Bluetooth connection between Charge 2 and my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge drops in and out completely randomly during rides. I don't think it's a GPS issue (although could be), as the fitbit says it has no connection with the phone. Nothing to do with pausing either. I normally don't pause during rides and it definitely happens regardless.

I am running latest app/ android/ non-rooted etc. I will try rolling back the android app as suggested to the version pre early June (not 2.4.2 as it was working perfectly for me in May).

Apologies to all. As the same issue on the app occurs when an exercise is selected when on the tracker (which has no gps on it's own right, this acts, I thought as a shortcut to the app) I presumed it was related to the issue. I know it's not tracker related.

Brycebeaumont, it sounds like you're starting the exercise tracking from your Charge 2 rather than your phone, and that the connection between the two is failing.  Until they can get that sorted, I might suggest starting the exercise through the app instead of through your Charge 2 - just don't press pause until you're ready to finish the exercise - and let Fitbit insert the data from the tracker into the phone-based recording.

Well this might actually be tracker related as starting and recording exercises on my blaze (with phone GPS) works fine...

But the thread here wants to start exercises via app ...

(For example to get pace, time, distance info via headphones while running)

I've been following this thread since I found it after having the same problem with my app in April.  Since then, I just avoided using pause and started and completed my runs and was getting decent maps.

Then, my last few runs, my maps were all messed up.  GPS would zoom me out into the water or have me running across houses.  After 3-4 messed up maps like this in the Fitbit app, I'm now using Strava to map my runs.  I don't know if the GPS problem is something within my phone (Motorola Droid Turbo) but I guess I'll find out if my maps continue to screw up within Strava as well.  But so far, the maps seem to be working as they should, and Strava can meet my needs if Fitbit fails to do so.

1) current version (however I have since downgraded to 2.42 for the map functionality)

2) Samsung s7

3) when tracking using the app, map and splits etc would disappear regardless of pressing pause.

Downgrading to 2.42 has allowed me to keep the map, splits etc.

I took a walk this afternoon and tracked it with GPS using both my Charge 2 and the app itself.  I paused using the tracker, but didn't pause the exercise in the app.

When I finished, the app's version of the map was somewhat more accurate (but I think that's more to do with the motion of my arm than anything else) but had no pace (0'00").  BUT.  When I synced, the map stayed and acquired a pace.  I ended up with two complete and comparable records of my walk (and I deleted one of them).

Hello @Kellan, it sounds like your experiencing something like this thread https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Blaze/Blaze-not-syncing-Run-exercises/td-p/2044916/

We know it has nothing to do with using the app.

I think you'll find many of us have provided this information more that once already since March 9th, this is more than frustrating and not doing your reputation any good at all.
Esp if we keep telling you how to repeat it and you keep asking us how to.
It is eminently repeatable and if you've taken any notice of posts so far you can repeat it just like we can.
Nexus 6
Android 7
Charge 2 HR
Tried all updates, none work, back on 2.42 which does work.
Gps mobile walk.
Pause,
Continue,
Pause,
Finish.
Nothing saved. No record of activity taking place at all.
Pause, continue is the problem.

Tracker irrelevant. Just go out and take your phone.
With or without tracker makes no difference.
Bug apparent since March 9th. It is June 24th!

Uninstalling Fitbit app and installing 2.42 from apkmirror works perfectly and is stable.

+1 with missing run data. Alta on Samsung S7 Android. The steps stay in the total but all other data of the run disappears.

I went from working out at the gym to going for early morning 5 mile walks with my dog last week.  I used the GPS function to track my route.  All were stopped upon finishing and a map was available to review on my phone for that day's walk.  Somewhere in the syncing of my phone, I lost 3 of those walks.  The length, burn, etc was available, but the GPS map (Seen immediately after finishing & stopping the app)  had disappeared.  After 30 pages, it doesn't sound like I'm alone.  Firmware on phone and Charge 2 is up-to-date, Samsung S6.

Is there a preferred method for saving this information as to not lose it?  I hit "pause" and then go through the finish routine.  My phone gives me the celebratory green screen and the map is viewable...then somewhere during the next hour or two, I can't find it.  I stop and start from home and my phone  is likely switching from 4G to my local network...could this be causing the loss?

Any word on a solution...a preferred method of stopping the app after a walk/run??  Please don't ask me to read ALL 30 pages.

Simular issue, was redirected from a different topic.
I use my Charge 2 mainly to track heartbeat which is fine, but also track cycling route's and sync to strava. Since recently I've been having troubles with this, I assumed it was my old phone. But now I have my Moto G (the model from this year I believe it's 5? old phone was first gen Moto G).

It seems that when I start an activity it rapidly drops bluetooth, since I'm missing my entire trip today. But commonly especially on my old phone it was dropped somewhere during the trip, like after 1 or 4km (I only do short rides for now since it's commutes of about 8.5km but want to start doing way longer soon e.g. towards 100km).

Do I need to have the Fitbit app running? Like not close it before starting an activity. (I start the activity through my charge 2). It could be that my old phone was force-closing it due to memory limitations.

Phone: Moto G 5 (2017)
Fitbit: Charge 2
Activity: Cycling
Apps running concurrently: Google Music

For me @PiLesley the fix Fitbit made weeks ago fixed my problem and following your steos i am unable to reproduce a loss of the recorded run. However some users have experienced a loss without ever pressing pause, something they had to do before the fix was implemented.  BTW im running the latestest Fitbit app on Android 6.0 not 2.44  the title says.

So yes when a fix for a problem that only affected some, fixs the problem for some, doesn't help others, and makes things worse for the rest, it means it will be a lot harder to diagnose. It also means Fitbit will be trying to do more testing before a fix is released. It really is a bummer when a fix has been both tested internally and with a public beta and it doesn't work.

Adding my 2¢. Seems to be a problem with the app.

I used the latest-updated Fitbit tracker on my Android 6.0 phone for a walk. Same thing. Got the map, the splits, the impact, etc. BUT it would not update to my activity log even when I had an internet connection. Went to settings and saw both my Fitbit devices listed and another one I hadn't seen before -- MobileTrack. Aha, it is just taking longer to sync. Nope, an hour later nothing, but MobileTrack still showing. So I "unpaired" it thinking to kick it into gear. That didn't work. I was wearing a device, so steps got counted, but no activity log.

Whether it has anything to do with it or not, I did hit "pause" once which I do not normally do, but noticed it was mentioned as a possible culprit. I'll know not to do that again. We shall see.

So after fully resetting my app yesterday, setting location services on high accuracy etc. I took another commute ride today ~8.3km. Fitbit however just failed to record certain parts again and I went 6.2km according to fitbit. Luckily strava can even correct these outages by connecting two dots.

I'm getting pretty annoyed by these outages, my phone is nearly brand new it should be able to keep up, wearing the phone in my left pocket, Charge 2 on my left wrist.

Sounds like that's your phone GPS.
Not the tracker.

Just a follow-up to my post of yesterday where I wasn't sure "pause" was the culprit in my recent tracking activity sync problem.

Tracked a hike today. Did not hit "pause". When I finished, map, activity, splits, all info immediately synced to the dashboard and my activity log.

Not saying pausing tracking is the problem, but it seem to 'fix' my issue.

@MsStretchThanks for confirming that MobileTrack can suddenly appear as a connected device.. Happened to me a few weeks ago.

App V2.52 has just downloaded on my phone so I will test it shortly.. I'm sure Fitbit would have announced a fix.. because all the release tells us is Bug Fixes..
