Modifying an Auto-Detect Exercise

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I appreciate the convenience of auto-detect on my Charge 6.

Unfortunately the watch/app/software often get details wrong e.g. distance or time duration of a swim workout. At times it completely misidentifies the activity, saying swimming freestyle for 1/2 mile is workout on a rowing machine. I would like to be able to modify the recorded activity to correct details such as start time, duration, distance, and type of activity.

When I try to edit, the app rejects the changes, and details revert to the original incorrect data. The only "workaround" is to completely delete the auto-detect activity and manually log it. But then I lose all heart rate data from the activity, so this is not an acceptable solution.

Suggestions, please.

This problem has been around for many months. Fitbit's inaction is deplorable; they don't care about their customers. To top it all off, to modify an automatically-triggered activity (e.g. cycling), Fitbit requires you to manually enter the distance travelled, as it is incapable of calculating the distance travelled on a bike.
Unbelievable the mediocrity achieved by Fitbit.

@2Flo9 Thank you for your message.

@mathmtcs , A warm welcome to the Community ! Thank you for your message.

There are 2 different ways for the Charge 6 to recognize and record your activities ( selected ones only).

SmartTrack. This feature will detect between 7 different activities. It will run in the background. This feature won't track distance or pace.
The setting for this is in the Fitbit app. You can change the time the Fitbit needs to detect the activity (from 5-15 minutes)

Auto Start. This feature applies for these activities only ( Bike, Elliptical, Rowing, Run, Spinning, or Walk) . If this feature is on then the Exercise app will start once one of the described activities is detected and recognized. This feature should record your distance, pace, and the main stats.
The settings for this feature are on the Charge 6 itself.

To turn on/off this feature:
Open the Exercise app in the Charge 6.
Tap (the Bike, Elliptical, Rowing, Run, Spinning, or Walk) option.(each individually)
Swipe up and turn on/off Auto Start.
The next time your device detects this workout type, the Exercise app automatically opens. (depending if you left this on)

Note: To automatically detect when your workout ends, you can also turn on Auto-Stop.

@JuanFitbit that doesn't answer their question.

The issue (as per my previous posts that got ghosted) is that it's not working, the app records activities incorrectly. Whilst I don't expect it to get it right every time, I do expect to be able to edit it.

When you edit the incorrect activities it will not save, as described by OP above.

Your users should not be having to come up with their own workarounds and jumping through all these hoops just to get the app to perform basic functions that have worked for the past 10 years.

Could we just have an honest answer please, do Fitbit plan to fix this or not? You then give customers the choice that they deserve, to look for another tracker whose app does work.

Turning the feature on and off does not help.

I've been asking about this for the past 2 months and no help.

@JuanFitbit

In addition to my previous message, I specify that my modification of the different activity fields is impossible for any type of activity. whether triggered automatically or manually.

It's just unacceptable for your customers. I believe that Fitbit is the only application on the market that prevents its customers from modifying an activity...

@Linz16 @2Flo9 Thank you for your replies and the screenshots shared.
Our team is looking into this, why the ability to modify the exercises is not working as expected.

They haven't provided any ETA, but they are working on it.
My apologies if my first post, didn't address the main concern of yours.

I'll be glad to update you all as soon as I get more info about this.

Thank you for bringing this to the dev team's attention. A fix would definitely enhance the user experience.

@JuanFitbit We've been waiting for this fix for ages now.

Google Fitbit's inability and lack of responsiveness is despairing...

@mathmtcs the problem is though, a fix isn't required to 'enhance the user experience', it's merely to put the app back to what it was doing a year ago when everything worked fine. No one is asking for an enhancement, just for it to work with basic functions.
