My Samsung SM-J120W no longer supports the Fitbit app

I have been using my Samsung SM-J120W with my Charge2 for a few years.
When trying to synch today, I saw a message that my version of the fitbit app was no longer supported.
I deleted the app and wen to the Google play store to get the new app. It did not show up.

I opened the Google Store on my workstation and found the app. In the list of my compatible devices, it shows my phone but says that it is not compatible with my phone.

The phone is running Android 6.
What do I need to do to get my phone talking to my Fitbit again.
My wife is about to find the same problem with her Fitbit since she has the same phone.

Hello @ronatartifact and @GRB53

The latest fitbit apps only work with Android version 8 or higher.

If you have removed your fitbit version, you will have to look in archive sites for an older version of the fitbit app.

I've also moved this thread into the android forum.

Thanks for clearing that up.
This will probably make a few users unhappy since changing a phone to get a supported app for a watch seems to be a bridge too far.

OTOH  version 6 has been off support for a while.

I will try to find a way to upgrade the phone without throwing out a perfectly good phone.
In the meantime, I will look for the older version of the Fitbit app.

There are several sites that archive past app versions.

With android it will be easy to download and "side load" any version.

Try Google.

This is a lot easier than rooting the phone to install a questionable newer OS

I tried to give a thumbs down to the response, but I guess this system only allows happy faces. A meaningful response would have said which older version of the fitbit app to go back to.

@Sandcrab72 what OS version does your phone run? If the OS is version 8 or above, fitbit should support it.

If the OS is version 7 you will need to side load an older fitbit app version.
