Hi,
Today I have managed to to make the notifications working on my Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus which is unsupported by fitbit. My problems where similar to most users. The Notification service not running marked in red in the fitbit app, while the mobile callings works. I am using a Charge 2.
The solution can be found on this Forbes link by Ben Sin. Note that the solution by this guy is about fixing notification on the phone and has nothing to do with Fitbit, but even although I never had a notification problem on my phone, it did make my Fitbit to receive notifications.
Here is a summary steps on the site in case one day the link will be broken:
I did the steps below for both fitbit app and the notification app.
1: Go to settings --> manage apps' battery usage --> choose apps. From there, pick all the apps you want to receive push notifications and select "No restrictions."
2: Go to settings --> permissions --> autostart. From there, pick the apps you want to receive notifications, and toggle the switch to turn it on.
3: Go to settings --> app notifications --> pick the apps you want to receive notifications, then turn the toggle for "Priority" on.
4: Lock the app in the "recent apps"/ "app overview" plane. Do so by first opening the apps, then press the "recent apps/overview button" (that's the square button on stock Android, or the button with three horizontal lines on the Mi Mix). From there, find the app you want to receive notifications, pull down on it to "lock it", so it never gets cleared.
5: This last step requires Developer Options privileges. To enable that, go to settings (man... I'm getting tired of typing "go to settings" ...) --> about phone
--> tap on MIUI version tab like eight times. You should then get a little message saying "you are now a developer." Then head back out to settings, go to developer option, scroll to nearly the bottom, find "memory optimization," and turn it off.
So finally I solved one of the major problems. I have installed an app called "Fit Notifications" so that I can receive any notification from any app I want to the charge 2. Then added IFTTT app for my custom smart devices and automation notifications which is the only way I could find to send custom push notifications. I am also using an app called loop - habit tracker, to send reminder notifications for good habits such as meditation, water drinking, book reading and also to find some time to relax and get a cup of tea 🙂
All of this would not be possible without notifications working. Hope Fitbit takes a note and try to understand more the problem and make it easier for the users.
Hope this helps.
