Only retrieve new messages on muted chats when the app is opened

As per the title, is there a way to configure Whatsapp to only retrieve new messages from muted chats when the app is opened? In case in makes a difference, I'm on a Google Pixel 7 Pro, running the latest Android OS.

I've got a Fitbit that receives notifications without issue, but if a muted chat receives a message, the Fitbit quickly displays a Whatsapp notification stating that it's checking for new messages, then the notification goes away. It's pretty annoying that the Fitbit basically sends me an alert for a muted chat. Facebook Messenger on the other hand only retrieves messages from muted chats when it's opened, so there's no problem there.

Does anyone have any ideas or workarounds?

Hi @varloca3 - one option to handle that case is via Macrodroid.

It can handle all notifications and delete or repackage them based on criteria so you can manage notifications on your phone and only show what you want in the watch.

You can reroute any app's notifications entirely via Macrodroid by disabling Fitbit app notifications for any phone app and relay only the ones you want, when you want, via Macrodroid which obviously needs to be enabled in the Fitbit app notifications.

It is a quite powerful solution for all sorts of things and quite simple to set up.
