Order of the information in the Fitbit app

Love my Alta HR but this latest update is finally the straw that broke the camel's back of my relationship with Fitbit after 6 years.

- Sleep scores are worthless, as covered in other threads

- Notifications switch at random between "none at all" and "abrupt deluge", probably related to...

- Enormous syncing issues over Bluetooth with the Android app. Even manually syncing takes me about 8 tries now to get it to actually sync, and it typically does not sync unless I manually sync it

- Sleep graph is broken in multiple areas (both the main view on the app and the sleep-specific view) if you manually edit sleep, as is sometimes necessary

- The button to renew challenges from the challenge screen doesn't work 95% of the time. This will be the last week of challenges for me because I'm tired of manually adding people to a new challenge vs just clicking the Rematch button

This doesn't factor into me looking for Fitbit alternatives, but the challenges showing up before all my personal information (you know, the thing I actually wear Fitbit to track) unless I manually re-order them each and every time is also obnoxious.

Hi @LostEchoes , thank you for your reply and information. Could you  confirm if your S7 is working with Android 8 or 9?

Will be expecting your reply.

@JuanFitbit Thanks for being proactive on this issue.

Another symptom...

When you resequence a couple of Challenges to the bottom and save, there is a very prolonged "please wait" message, and the result is, that all of my 10 Challenges are at the top under the Activity Stats.. Just happened to me then.

The annoying thing is that I have  to move 17 Challenges down which includes the completed ones.

@Colinm39 , @LostEchoes If I understand correctly, the issue is once Challenges are moved to the bottom, they return to the top after the challenge is completed? This may be intended behavior. I can see what I can confirm. If I'm missing something please let me know.

Hi @KateFitbit  thought I'd experiment today after reading the latest here. Moved all challenges in progress or completed to the bottom of the list. Then I had a friend start a challenge and it popped up to the top. I've restarted the phone a few times and the new challenge is still directly under steps (miles, active minutes and calories), but before steps per hour, bpm and sleep. The other challenges are below those stats. I'll keep an eye on it today.

@KateFitbit Mine is the same as @Odyssey13  but sometimes when the Dashboard is slow opening all 17 of my Challenges, completed and Active were positioned under the Activity Stats.

I just noticed that winners on the current day also are placed under the Activity Stats

@KateFitbit  Hi.
I will try to explain the issue with some screenshots.
First of all let's name the three sections we have on the android app dashboard (see the screenshots):

- Section 1 (colored dark red): The main Activity panel with steps, cals, min, distance
- Section 2 (colored dark blue): HR, Exercise, Hourly steps, Weight, Sleep
- Section 3 (colored light brown): Challenges, Daily step goals, adventures, etc.

area1 AND 2.pngarea2 AND 3.pngarea3.png

Now, if we set up the above order, after some of the Section 3 items (e.g. Workweek Hustle, Goal day, Challenges) get updated in some way (for example if I get notices that someone has passed me on the Workweek hustle, or if someone invites me on a new Goal Day challenge, etc), then the order gets messed up and Section 3 (*or parts / items / some challenges of Section 3 - the one that are updated) go on top of the Section 2. See screenshot below:

SECTION3-UP.png

So we end up having the very important Section 2 at the very bottom - and below Section 3 (*or parts / items / challenges of it - the ones that get updated). Now imagine, if we participate in a lot of challenges that frequently get updated, we have to scroll down too much to see the important info of Section 2 !
So it seems that everything below Section 1 does not stick to the position we have set up in the beginning.

Now, I guess (correct me if I'm wrong) that most people would agree that the most important sections of the android app dashboard are Section 1 and Section 2, right ? They contain info (actually a great summary) related to our daily activity and related to our health ! So one would assume that these two sectors would stay on top.
If we agree on these assumptions (about the importance of the sections' info), then there is only ONE way to keep Section 1 and Section 2 on top of Section 3.
And that way (which I find ugly and inconvenient) would be to set the order by ourselves as follows:

Section 2
Section 1
Section 3.

This way (and only this way) Section 2 and Section 1 remain "sticky", and the various items of Section 3 change order as they are updated - BUT always within the area of Section 3. But I'm pretty sure NO one really wants to have Section 2 above of Section 1, right ? So then we get this:

5.png6.png

Which as I said, is not to my liking.

BUT, let's say that I'm the weird one (and the only one) that does not like Section 1 below Section 2.

Even with that hypothesis, we SHOULD have the option for sticky sections.
So, if I want to have this order....

Section 1
Section 2
Section 3

I should be able to have it like that, without any changes, right ? I don't mind the Challenges, Adventures to move / change order, AS LONG as they do it WITHIN Section 3, and without the whole Section 3 (*or some items / parts / challenges of it - the ones that get updated) moving and going on top of other Sections.
Right now I do NOT have the option for such STICKY order, and the only way for me to have Section 1 and Section 2 on top, is to put Section 2 above Section 1.

I hope now everything is clear.

*EDITED for clarity.

@LostEchoes thanks for the screenshots and detailed explanation. I believe this is expected behavior, though may not be not popular or convenient. I think this feature suggestion matches your experience and recommend voting and commenting here. This information will be passed on to our team for review, I can share that we have already discussed this with some of our team, many feel it's not a great experience, hopefully it will be updated soon.

@KateFitbit, why is it when you have behaviour in the app that people don't like and have taken the time to say so and explain why, do they still have to vote to get it amended?

Who in their right mind would want this as expected behaviour? People have been quite clear about their views on the amount of scrolling now required in the app. If things are not going to stay where you put them frustration will most likely lead to less use.

The lags in updating within the app are also tedious, particularly the steps per hour sometimes on the dashboard but not the contained chart or sometimes vice versa.

@KateFitbit
Although I do appreciate that you've spent time on this and you've paid attention to everything we wrote, I have to say I'm deeply disappointed that this is just one more of those cases where our detailed presentation and explanation of an obvious wrong and inconvenient behaviour of the app is "escalated" and degraded to a common and simple .... "Feature suggestion".

How on earth is a virtual challenge called "Valley Loop" or "Daily Showdown" game more important than our Resting Heart rate, our weight, our Sleep info ?

I will post everything on the Suggestions Topic you have proposed, BUT let me kindly emphasize that not considering this app's behaviour as a bug, and actually one that should be fixed ASAP, is disrespectful to Fitbit's customers, to the say the least.

As @Lilbiddy has posted:

I hate everything about the new dashboard but the worst thing is the challenges.  Every new challenge goes at the top so I have to scroll down to see my stats or edit my dashboard several times a week.  Please bring back the old dashboard or make the new one semi-usable.

Hi @SuzySteps  your post was merged into this existing thread. Read what Moderator @KateFitbit  said in a post above. This is normal behavior for the app.

"Intended and expected" (behaviour) by the devs, because they intentionally designed the app this way, yeah, sadly.
"Normal", definitely not. Especially by a company that wants to be considered as a "Health - oriented brand".

Fitbit wants customers to know their future lies in being a “health company.”

So the app is now expected to behave terribly. Thank you for the clarification.

I've already complained a lot about this new app that I still haven't found anyone who likes.  As for this thread, I just wanted to say I really miss the separate challenge tab.  Right now, I have very little desire to be in more than one challenge because of all the problems mentioned above.  Was thinking that when the watch needs to be replaced, I'll start looking elsewhere.  Now I'm thinking we're getting close to the holiday season specials...

I know this is not the ideal solution, but please have a look at these two Feature Suggestions and vote for them, in hope that the devs might finally understand how inconvenient the behaviour of the app is right now:
