Fitbit Update: 9/6

Everyone, please make sure you are enabling the Fitbit app permissions under Settings of your Android device. You can go to Settings > Apps> Fitbit app > Permissions and make sure you have it toggled on.

Since I've received confirmation that this has been resolved with the latest update to the Fitbit app, version 2.78, I will be closing this thread. If you come across this issue in a future instance, please create a new topic on the forum and reference this one as the issue. Thanks for all your patience as we worked to get this resolved.

Fitbit Update: 9/5

Hi, everyone - Yesterday on 9/4, we started the release of the Fitbit for Android app version - 2.78. As with all our Android app releases, it is a slow and gradual release until it is completely out to everyone. You should all see it available sometime this week. Once its available to you, you'll be able to download it from the Google Play store.

This app version contains fixes and improvements for calls being received as "Unknown Caller." So please download it once you see it available and let me know here in this thread how it goes. I really appreciate everyone's patience! I'll stick around to hear some confirmations that the fix worked.

Fitbit Update 08/22/2018: Hi, everyone!

I wanted to let you know our team is aware that some of you are seeing "Unknown caller" on your Versa/Ionic watches since updating to Android Pie (9.0).

They are already investigating the issue and I will let you know when a fix is available. Thanks for reporting this here on the Community. Smiley Happy

Welcome to the Forums, it's really nice to see you here @Sentvc! Thanks for trying those steps, you did a great job.

I haven't heard any issue with Surge related to the Android 9 (pie) at this moment. You can try the next steps to troubleshoot the issue you're having with your calls:

Its important to check all requirements :

  • Phone should be in the list of tested devices, check our list of compatible devicesin this case Pixel 2 is not there, so it might be why it is not working properly but let's check the rest of requirements and troubleshooting steps.
  • For Android phones: to help improve the delivery, go to Notifications and make sure Enable Notification Widget is on.
  • If you recently updated the Fitbit app, reboot your mobile device and try setting up notifications again.
  • Make sure the Do Not Disturb setting on your mobile device is turned off because it prevents the device from sending notifications to your tracker.

If the issue persist, try these steps:

1. Disconnect ("unpair") your tracker in your mobile device's Bluetooth settings. The instructions differ by device, but in most cases: Tap Settings > Bluetooth and find your tracker in the list of paired devices.

2. Restart your tracker.
3. Open the Fitbit app under Account (upper right corner), Tap Forget or Forget Device to unpair your tracker.
4. Reboot your mobile device.
5. In the Fitbit app under Account (upper right corner), tap Notifications > turn on the notifications you want to receive.

In case of having an Android phone, also check your phone Permissions and leave location on to keep syncing with your phone, for more info check those suggestions from @ErickFitbitSmiley Wink

Tried it all. As you can see in comment section at fitbit apps in playstore, all android pie has the same issue. I think you should update fitbit apps compatibility with android 9 (pie).
Thanks!

Thanks for getting back @Sentvc! Good call!

We're currently receiving feedback about that specific Android update and our team is working on it. In this case, as your phone is not in the list of the tested devices we can't assure the Fitbit App will be working flawless. I'd suggest to use a compatible device or a computer to sync and check if this will show the correct information in you Surge.

Let me know if you have more questions about it.

PS. I've moved your post to the Android Board, to keep the Forums organized.

I just upgraded to the versa from the charge 2. Everytime someone calls is says unknown caller even if they are saved in my phone. The missed call shows the number or contact though.. I have tried uninstalling...  Checking the settings.. even calling support who was no help at all... Anyone else have this issue? I feel like it sgatsta doing this on my charge when my phone updated it's software a few weeks ago.

Same issue. Ionic and Pixel 2XL. Super annoying on bike rides because I have to grab my phone from my jersey pocket to decide whether someone is worthy enough to interrupt my ride... LOL

Hi @Sentvc. You're right it seems to be very odd that both stopped working at the same time. We're currently investigating this, so if these two issues are related; we will have to wait until the issues with Android 9 (pie) get resolve.

I'll keep you posted.

Same exact issue as everyone else. It shows unknown caller and I'm using Google pixel 1 phone (starting to see a pattern on here). This is just terrible! Now I can't see if my step son is calling me from school when I'm at work. 😞

I have been waiting for a fix for about 2 weeks and still nothing. I am really annoyed with the whole thing.

Already had an update and it did not fix the issue. It's ridiculous that it's taking this long. Pay all this money for this and right now it doesn't have the simplest feature.
