Sleep log lost sleep stages information

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi,

I normally see a nice graph with the sleep stages and some information about the time spent in each of the stage. This morning the log of two days ago changed and now (only for that night) it shows a lot less information. It also seems that it is incorrect, because it shows that I slept more than I did.

Other days show the expected information.

I have a Fitbit Charge 2, the log in question happened on Tuesday, March 20.

Seems like a data corruption, is it possible to restore the original measurements?

Hello @Justin_M, nice to see you have joined the Fitbit Community! I was reading your post and it seem one of your logs lost your sleep stages details. This is the first time I heard something similar due to once the data is synced to your Dashboard hardly can be manually or automatically modified.

I believe this was common issue that your tracker was not able to read your sleep stages, however when this happen, is not possible to restore the original data.

For more details please review this article: What should I know about sleep stages?.

Hope this helps and stay tuned to the Fitbit Community for more help.

Just for consideration - I had the same issue occur last night using a Charge 2 HR. I've only had it for a couple of days and the first night it worked with no issues. I'm hoping that this isn't an indication of a larger issue with this model as I've really been looking forward to upgrading from the original Flex to this model.

Hi @RobertoME, thanks for a reply!

I probably didn't explain my problem well. My issue was that one of the days in the history, after being logged properly, changed into some weird corrupted state.

Here's a detailed timeline of what happened:
3/19 - last night log shows sleep stages with a chart as expected.
3/20 - both last night logs show expected data.
3/21 - last night stage is shown as expected, but the stage for 3/20 has changed to some corrupted state.
3/22 - last night stage is shown as expected, all other nights except 3/20 are fine. 3/20 is still corrupted.

Not sure how better explain this. I have tracked the sleep pattern that night, saw the data in the morning and it changed a day later.

Hello @JPB1981 and @Justin_M thank you for the additional details.

@JPB1981 just to clarify, the issue you are experiencing is related to one of your logs changed the sleep data to normal view without sleep stages? If one of your logs is not showing sleep stages, you should be able to see a message beneath the log that you need to tap in order to elrn more why the tracker was not able to read your sleep in depth.

@Justin_M thank you for the additional explanation, I did understand the issue you were experiencing, however, as I mentioned before, this is the first time I heard something similar happen with sleep stages. As I mentioned before, if the information is was lost, there are no option to recover the data due to the information hardly can be modified once it was uploaded to your Dashboard. Of course, errors can occurred while we are dealing with electronic devices. So I'm not taking out of the question something like this can occurred.

I've seen some users are able to edit the sleep log by reviewing the time and in some occasions, the sleep data is recalculate showing the advanced view of sleep stages. Now this is not a workaround, as there is no guarantee it will work.

Let me know if the issue continue to happen. I'll be around.

@RobertoME thanks for the reply.

The issue is that I'm not receiving the detailed sleep stages information consistently from my Charge 2. For whatever reason (I'm also not receiving much in the way of explanation from the app, unfortunately other than the device could not read my heart rate consistently through the night) it's become hit and miss readings - 60/40 miss/hit on the detailed sleep analysis since I've purchased it. The only corrective action that I've found and attempted was loosening the device band shortly before bed, but it doesn't seem to have changed anything.

My Charge 2 is doing the same thing.  It is related to my HR not working.  Last week the green lights were not displaying and a reset fixed it.  Today, the green lights are on, and I have done multiple resets to no avail...

Hello @swim4lifekac and @JPB1981, thank you for the additional details. If you are seeing that the heart rate is the reason you are not able to see your sleep stages, note that Fitbit estimates your sleep stages using a combination of your movement and heart-rate patterns.

While you’re sleeping, your device tracks the beat-to-beat changes in your heart rate, known as heart rate variability (HRV), which fluctuate as you transition between light sleep, deep sleep, and REM sleep stages. If we don’t have enough information on the backend to calculate this, we’ll show you your old sleep pattern which doesn’t require heart rate.

What you have done by loosing the band is great @JPB1981, this is one of the recommendations to have a consistent heart rate signal. If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.

For more details please refer to our article: What should I know about my heart rate data?

Take care and hope this information helps.

@RobertoME my HR is no longer working on my Charge 2.  I called Support last night and they confirmed this.   (Luckily, I have a Versa on pre-order).
