Fitbit Update 12/21/2016: Our team has released a new Android app update, version 2.39.1 to address the issues of the sleep tile showing excessive amounts of sleep and/or a negative number. I recommend updating as soon as you see the app update available to you.
Once you've updated, please let me know if the issue has been resolved for you. I will greatly appreciate that!
Fitbit Update 12/19/2016: Our team is aware of a couple of sleep issues that have appeared for some users since updating the Android app to version 2.39.
Some users have reported that their sleep tile is displaying an excessive amount of sleep while some have reported seeing a negative number for their sleep record such as "-548 min awake/restless while using the Fitbit app for Android, version 2.39. Our team is currently aware of this issue and working to determine the root cause and get a fix for this pushed out.
For now, please note that a factory reset will not fix the issue, and neither will uninstalling and reinstalling. We’re working hard to figure this out - hang tight!

Having this same problem. Last night in fact I was awake for -768 minutes. I've gone back and reviewed all of my data since getting this in September 2016 and every night now indicates some wacky large negative number. Maybe time to uninstall the app and reinstall?

I've asked support, so await a response.. If others are affected and it is a relatively new issue it tends to indicate the issue is at the Fitbit end.
It will be interesting to see if they know about it.

Confused now. Fitbit support has suggested an uninstall/reinstall.
Unless a fix has been issued (which seems unlikely as they are "working on it") am I not ust going to reinstall the bug.?
Clarification please mods.

@SunsetRunner It sounds like our support team is having you go through the basic troubleshoots to see if they help, since this is a new issue. I'm having a specialist investigate this so that it can be communicated widely, but it will take a little time before the entire support team is updated with that info.
These sorts of things typically appear first on social platforms like the Community, and we communicate them as quickly as possible from there.

The new dashboard shows right sleep times but the picture shows wrong hours. It will log 6 hr 47 min sleep from 8:36-4:30 but show over 14 hours of sleep.
When I switch back to the old dashboard it shows the correct sleep information.

Why is my flex showing -390 minutes awake/restless?

For the last week or so my sleep log numbers are crazy. It shows time awake at -1146 or -470 minutes. Then it shows I slept for 15 hours (which i most certianly did not). What in the world is going on with this thing?

I am having the same issue. It looks ok when I look at it on my pc, but on the app it is all crazy.

I'm having a similar issue. I'm using the new menu where each statistic is in a little circle. My sleep for each of the past two days shows up as 21 hours, yet the sleep and wake up times are accurate (approx 11 PM to 8 AM). When I go into the actual sleep chart, everything is correct. It is only on the summary page that the total number of hours are way off.

Hi everyone, thanks for posting about both of these issues:
If you’re experiencing either of the issues, I wanted to just give you the heads up that our engineers are now aware of this, and working on a fix.
For now, please note that a factory reset will not fix the issue, and neither will uninstalling and reinstalling. We’re working hard to figure this out - hang tight!

Thank you for the update. It is excellent that you have quickly accepted there is an issue and are working on a fix. If only all software issues were dealt with so efficiently by others . I don't envy you. With Christmas fast approaching and the prospect of thousands of customers opening Fitbit devices and being confused why sleep monitoring doesnt work there must be some urgency to issue a fix. Hopefully your dev team haven't already packed up for the holidays !
