My fitbit Versa tracks swimming strokes with no problem.  I usually use a kickboard for 500 to 600 yards manually.

Every so often the yards log as a manual entry wipe out the swimming yards.

Has anyone experienced the same issue?

I don't log any part of swimming manually. Some drills are indeed a problem to be detected but then I kind of live with it. Kind of because Fitbit isn't my main swimming watch, and the one I use has a drill log feature. Then I cross-sync the proper one into Fitbit so I end up with 2 entries of swimming. One from Fitbit and second from the other platform. Major difference is that the second contains also drills (and lengths are counted correctly) and the pace is a moving pace (doesn't include rest between intervals). I never tried to log swimming manually and it looks like editing of existing entry doesn't allow for distance correction.

I haven't encountered the same issue, but I also rarely log any part of my swimming manually with my Fitbit. I do know that the app can be a bit finicky sometimes, especially when it comes to logging specific activities. Perhaps you could try syncing with another platform that has a more precise drill log feature like @t.parker suggested. It could help with accuracy and possibly prevent the erasure of your manually logged yards.

@Bozzdivine Yesterday, I encountered an interesting situation. Basically, I arrived at the pool bit too early and the previous group didn't finish the session. But because they were practising jumps one one end I could use only a half of the 25m lane to warm up (good enough) before they finished their session. For each half of the lane, my Sense was giving me 25m. Can't do anything about that. It quickly inflated distance and pace. On Garmin, I could track those half-laps as drills (I press a button for drill logging) and log 25m on my watch when I came back to the wall (two halves is 25m). It makes tracking so much easier.
