Syncing Surge into Android app needs Gps? Data stealing?

Recently, i hav to swtich on my gps just to get my Surge to sync data the app. Last time i check, bluetooth is enough transfer data. Is fitbit conviniently trying to collect data under our nose with the gps. This is not cool.

@Syadie - Fitbit does not use GPS to sync your tracker, but Android 6.0 Marshmallow requires Location Services to be enabled in order for sync to work. If you check your phone's usage, you'll see that Fitbit does not use the location services. But, it can't sync without it being enabled.

This is a change made by Google.

 

From the fitbit article

 

If you are running OS 6.0 (Marshmallow), please note that Google has changed the permissions required for Bluetooth syncing. You must turn on location services to sync your tracker (Settings > Location). For more information about the latest Google permission requirements, see Google's Android 6.0 Changes document.
