Syncing notification hasn't appeared for a while

If the app has failed to sync with a device for a few hours (or a configurable length of time) bring up a notification to that effect. Often the first I know about my Charge 2 losing sync with my phone is when I get a call or text that doesn't come up on the watch. If the app knows that it hasn't synchronised with the device, however, it should show that as a notification. This could obviously be configured on or off, and switched off by default, in case users are not interested or not bothered about checking manually to maintain sync.

Hi @IAmAlsoJohn, I'm glad to see you here again.

Thanks for the details provided. I've confirmed that your Samsung Galaxy A5 isn't part of our compatible devices list and this may be affecting how your Charge 2 communicates with the Fitbit app. Since it has synced in the past, we can continue working on this. Just note that there isn't a guarantee that it'll always work as the Fitbit app hasn't been optimized to work with this model.

Please try the following steps on your phone. Some settings' name may vary depending on your phone's model:

  1. Go to your phone's settings.
  2. Look for Apps & Notifications > Notification Management > Fitbit.
  3. Tap on Sync service and choose the option that you prefer on how receive that notification.
  4. Then, go back to the Optimize Battery Use settings and turn it off.

I'll be around, keep me posted.

Hi @IAmAlsoJohn. Welcome to the Community Forums.

Thanks for sharing detailed information of what should appear on your phone when your Fitbit device isn't syncing. Let me share that there is a notification that is displayed on your device to let you know if your Fitbit device was able to sync or not. If you're not getting this notification, I'd recommend to try the following:

  1. Open the Fitbit app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap on your profile's icon > Charge 2 image.
  3. Look for "All-day sync" and turn it on.
  4. Do the same with the "Always connected" option.
  5. Then try to sync and you'll be notified about this process on your phone. Note that the Fitbit app should be running on the background.

Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Yeah, I've got those options enabled, and I think I might have seen that notification before, but it was quiet and suppressed - I had to go looking for it. That means I missed the notification on my phone that told me I was about to start missing notifications on my watch.

And right now, my Charge 2 is out of sync and there's no syncing notification.

Hi @IAmAlsoJohn. Thanks for getting back.

I appreciate you for checking the information provided in my previous post. Since the notification is still not appearing, please verify the following instructions to enable the Fitbit app to run in the background:

  1. On your phone, open the Settings app > Apps and notifications > Apps.
  2. Tap Fitbit > Battery.
  3. Turn off the Power-intensive prompt option.
  4. Tap Launch.
  5. Turn off the Manage automatically option, and turn on the Auto-launch, Secondary launch, and Run in background options.
  6. Tap OK.

Once that is done, turn off and on the settings described above. Then reboot your phone, restart your Charge 2 and try syncing one more time. Make sure your Fitbit and your phone are within 20 feet, as well to turn off other Bluetooth connections nearby.

Keep me posted.

I don't see most of those options in my Settings app, but I did my best. Here's what I've done:

1. Settings app -> Apps

2. Fitbit -> Battery (screen is titled "Optimise Battery Use")

3. Fitbit is unchecked. That is the only available setting.

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy A5 running Android version 8.0.0, if that makes a difference.
